Does everyone know about the wildfires happening in Aviemore?

I'm about 40 miles away and the air is filled with smoke, it stinks, you can see the glow of the fires and ash is falling now too.

Totally unconfirmed but locally they are saying this was started by some twat with a disposable barbecue (happens a lot up here) with a combination of the weather being so hot its dried everything out, and the ground where it started being mainly peat its a disaster.

I hope there are no casualties, and that all the animals mange to get somewhere safe, although I know that's wishful thinking at this point.

Can't believe beautiful aviemore is suffering through this right now.

No I did not hope they put it out soon very sad

I didn't.
Disposable bbq's should be banned. They just create mess, at best, if not a fire.

I've seen a small UK grass fire move in a breeze. It moves fast. Proper scary stuff.

It's scary where I am, we had wildfires a few years back only 6 miles away and the air wasn't as bad as it is now, so I can only imagine how bad it is down there.

We get a lot of wild campers in this area, and many of them don't understand that just because you're allowed to camp, you still have to be responsible. Just last year I had to call the fire brigade because, despite there being a massive beach just 2 metres some idiot had started a campfire in a wooded area which got out of control.

Aviemore is so beautiful, its going to take a long time to recover from this.
