Gulls stopping me getting in my house

I can’t get into my house I went in a walk and the way to get back into my house is by passing an area with gulls theres a whole group of them and I’ve been narrowly attacked by one already

You need to assert dominance. March in flapping your arms and screaming ‘THIS IS MY NEST NOW!’ Alternatively, bring a loaf of bread and throw it in the opposite direction while you leg it like a feral pigeon. Either way, don’t let them ruffle your feathers. Gull-damn it, it’s your house.

Peasantlypoor · 26/06/2025 22:19

It's no longer your house

Ineedanewsofa · 26/06/2025 22:21

Umbrella.
There are gulls nesting on the building opposite to our office and they are pretty terrifying if they think you are too close to the nest. They’ll be gone by September.

wrongthinker · 26/06/2025 22:27

Throw food in the other direction and run! Is there someone inside your house who could come out and distract them? Gulls are thugs. Be careful!

Iloveanicegarden · 26/06/2025 22:28

Gulls used to dive bomb our cats! DH used a cazoo to frighten them off. All it did was call in reinforcements - and the sky was full of squawking gulls like a scene from The Birds. They remembered him, and when he went out they squawked and dive bombed him!

I’m back in now but I feel like I’m on house arrest lol

How did you get in?

mindingmyown37 · 26/06/2025 22:52

Seagulls are menaces… I often get dive bombed by them because my dog is a choc lab and I think they think it’s a fox. They are clever enough not to come in the garden though 😂 I do love it when the crows chase them, it’s an enjoyable watch 😜#teamcrow

Being swooped at randomly is traumatising there is literally no where I can go that is safe they get close to my head and call to each other and all come at me

Ds used to do pizza deliveries when he was 18 and used to get mobbed by gulls when doing deliveries at the high flats. They eventually stopped taking orders from there.

😱😱😱 I'm still traumatised 60 years later after one was after my ice cream on Llandudno pier and clipped my ear when I was 4😱😱😱

I'd suggest full face motorcycle helmet and leathers to go out 👍

Littlemissmuffetstuffet · 26/06/2025 23:08

They get territorial if they have chicks, so a brolly is a good idea until the chicks have flown.

Would they fight my umbrella?

High Powered Laser Pen.

They HATE them and tend to avoid going back to the same area where they see them.

Would they fight my umbrella?

I doubt it - they would think it was some kind of a giant bird and leave it alone !

Or one of these, I've seen them used very effectively by seaside pavement cafes

I ran

From a flock of seagulls?

someone...? Anyone... sing it with me!

@Fuckinggulls was that a test 😂

SpIash · 27/06/2025 10:23

I got attacked by a gull once. Was minding my own business reading a book on a bench by the beach when one dive-bombed me and started shitting and vomiting on me. That’s their defense mechanism. I’d imagine I’d unwittingly sat too close to their nest of chicks.

It wasn’t pleasant.
