mediterranean summer holiday for just me

I just want to swim in clean, warm sea and lie on a sandy beach with my book.

No holiday for five years and i have had a horrible year and just need something nice to look forward to. DH and I going through a shit patch and he has no interest in going away - plus we are pretty broke. DC are older teens and have their own plans, so if I want to go away, it's just me doing a last minute thing.

Ideally, I'd do a 4*, AI hotel as I don't want to have to cook, and eating out alone every night is pretty miserable, but it's so bloody expensive paying a single supplement.

Has anyone found the 'best' way of doing this sort of trip? A week or so - Greece/ Greek Islands / Spain / Balearics / Italy would be idea. Not Canaries, Turkey, Tunisia, Egypt.

I don't want to do anything 'single' traveller. I am not 'single' and don't want to do any engineered get togethers or socialising. I just want to relax.

Stalis in Crete. Not far from airport. Most accommodation just across road from beach. Very flat so easy to walk or cycle. 5 minutes walk to main road where easy to get bus to St Nick the capital. I love a solo break and I really felt this ticked nearly all the boxes.

I’ve just booked to go to Menorca. Criteria similar to yours plus some nice places to walk/explore. Jet2 have some good deals and solo traveller discount.

Menorca is lovely - Mahon is absolutely stunning with a massive estuary, hotels overlooking it and lovely shops to mooch.

I love the Balearics. Menorca is a good call. It's the single supplement thing that pushes it up, but I'll look at the jet2 discounts - thanks!

Don’t book a package - just book separate flights and hotel via booking.com - what’s your budget OP and roughly when?

Piknik · 27/06/2025 10:39

£800 ish - any week in july or august

I think it’s the Ai that will possibly be an issue at a good level - given that flights at that time can often be £280 return -
