How to spot a MN in real life

WeeAgnes · 22/06/2025 21:37

In the local town park today, queuing for ice creams and heard those immortal words
Did you mean to be so rude? ” coming from the splash pool area.
Gutted I didn’t catch the gist of the scenario as it was very noisy but from what I could see, there were two mums glaring at each other with small children about them.

Does that mean that at least one of them was a bona fide MN?!

(Maybe Secretly hoping they’re on here and will reveal all 😉)

Huge hat, dark glasses, jumps at their own shadow while giving a tinkly laugh.

Whilst eating a massive salad!

You can't possibly spot an MNetter.

They'll be hiding indoors shaking and crying, because someone knocked at their door without a 2 week prior appointment.

Dontdoitdoreen · 22/06/2025 22:18

Someone at work complained that the latest management directive was...
Batshit.

I want the laugh emoji back
😂

Surely MNers are too busy batch cooking, taking in ironing, and getting their ducks in a row to spend time queuing for ice cream.

Well, normally yes, but I had the foresight to buy a chicken yesterday so that’s the weeks meals sorted 😜

Batshit.

This has become a popular saying at work.......And I'm not sure if it's me that introduced it 😬

Zippidydoodah · 22/06/2025 22:30

Batshit isn’t just mn language though, is it?

”Did you mean to be so rude?” Def is!! 🤣

I hope they’re reading this thread. I want to know what happened!

Summersunshinebliss · 22/06/2025 22:35

You can sometimes spot a mumsneter in the cleaning Isle shoving every product known to man in their trolleys Grin for all the hours of cleaning and washing that gets done.

WeeAgnes · 22/06/2025 22:36

Me too @Zippidydoodah
I’m totally blaming DH though, he saw me craning my neck when I heard those words, and he <sharp intake of breath> hurried me along in the queue.
Don’t worry, I’m getting my ducks in a row as we speak…

I'd never heard it before I joined MN and only on MN for a few years until recently when I'm hearing it a lot at work, so my experience probably colours the view that MN is where it came from.

MsMiniver · 22/06/2025 22:37

I heard myself declare “it’s just a massive salad” while serving up and realised I was outing myself as a MN.

WeeAgnes · 22/06/2025 22:41

@MsMiniver The very fact that you declared it, instead of just saying it gets you a MN badge 🏅
