I posted in General health this morning but havent had a response so trying here I have a rash on my left forearm. Its itchy not desperately so but itchy none the less. Not raisedFeels hot and is hot to touch.I got it first 2-3 weeks ago and thought it was our new brand suncream. Stopped using it and it disappeared with a bit if aveeno cream to keep the area moisturised not itchy back then. Now it's back not the sun cream i havent used it nor have I had any changes in other usual products and it is only on my left forearm.I have attached 2 photos of the rash 1 trying to do a close up And a further photoof my other arm to show the colour difference.I took an antihistamine yesterday to ease the itchyness but it didnt do much.I will make gp appointment tomorrow but figured Id ask here firstI get contact dermatitis and this feels nothing like it.

Looks like sunburn

SeaToSki · 22/06/2025 20:06

Have you been out in the sun? It looks like some sunburn in the photo. But assuming you know what sunburn looks like and it isnt that then…look at photosensitivity

Enko · 22/06/2025 20:11

Not sunburn no.. i agree it looks more like sunburn than any other rash.

Never heard of photosensitivity @SeaToSki so have been googling. I am not sure as photos show much redder or more raised a rash however the fact it tends to stick to 1 area does suggest it could be.

I find it odd its so concentrated on one area.

I am outright saying no to sunburn as it feels nothing like when I previously have had sunburn..also work uniform code means I have to wear covered shoulders I mostly do that with longer sleves there is no chance I could have got sunburned just there.

Can you pop into a pharmacy rather then your GP?

Beautifulspringsunshine · 22/06/2025 20:59

It’s prickly heat. I started getting it in my 30's. An oat based moisturiser will take the itch out. Sunscreen will prevent it in the future ☺️

Enko · 22/06/2025 21:28

Ive had prickly heat before this doesnt feel like that nor look like it did then..

The pharmacist is a good idea I will do that

@Enko Did you find out what it is yet? Are you feeling better?

Enko · 23/06/2025 16:58

I went to see pharmacist who said it looks like an allergic reaction to something. Gave me some excema &dermatitis cream and some stronger anti histamine to what I was using told me to see how it was in 3 days and then go back to gp if I had an issue.

Im still itcy and hot and cream made it feel worse but lets see willling to gice it a go as it has spread into my armpit today.

Thank you for asking

Enko · 23/06/2025 17:40

@Enko Ah well,. As long as you're not going to come down with the mysterious itchy arm rash fever. Get well soon x

Could you have brushed against a toxic plant OP, perhaps while gardening or walking a dog in overgrown areas? I believe a reaction to a plant can also make you sun sensitive.

Some meds can also make you sun sensitive too. Have you travelled as a passenger in a car with your arm resting in the sun?

I have got a dog. So that is possible. I am the designated driver so sun from car less possible.
