I'm so excited I don't know what to do with myself!

And it's for a reason that many would find prosaic - I passed my driving test!

It's been an ambition for years and I'm so excited to be able to take my son swimming, or pop to the shops etc.

I'm rubbish at celebrating myself. I always move the goalposts - like I've said to myself in the past, 'i'll buy myself an expensive handbag when I finish my degree' and that turned into 'when in finish my MA', 'when I finish my PhD' etc. I'm the queen of deferred gratification.

So much so that I now have this thing that I want to shout from the rooftops and I don't quite know what to do with myself!

What are your suggestions Mumsnet? How can I mark the day and exercise my excitement?

Congratulations!

I remember thinking what a massive milestone it would be and how I thought I'd never do it. When I passed, the independence was amazing.

You can take your son swimming and so much more.

Congratulations
get a bus / tram / train to somewhere and stare at the ticket- this will be your last ever one you need to buy !

You said that you were going to buy a handbag when you finished various different exams in your earlier life , well you have just finished another exam so I think it's time for that handbag now.
( make sure it has a pocket for car keys 😉)

You really do feel like you’re the only person that’s ever passed don’t you? I remember it so clearly even though it was 40 years ago.

Get your car (name it, of course!) and enjoy the freedom!

@Vitrolinsanity "You really do feel like you’re the only person that’s ever passed don’t you?"

Yeah, it's weird isn't it? Because obviously an awful lot of people have passed 😂😂😂 I think my whole family must be fed up of me showing them my certificate now, but I just can't get bored of looking at it.

@Meltedbrains "Is there anywhere you've wanted to take your kid but struggled to?"

Definitely! He's three years old and despite me being a total water baby, I haven't taken him for the swimming lessons if love for him to do because where I am (super, super rural), it's just a faff on public transport. Also, I love the beach but i'm 25 miles inland so it would be amazing to just pop to the beach for him and it not be an all-day ordeal on public transport. I think my basic plan for my immediate future (and my son's) is to seek out water 😂

I'm so excited for you!!

if you don't get a car this week, could you hire one next weekend & go to the beach etc??

Congratulations!

The world is now your oyster.🙂

Congratulations!

I’m inheriting some money soon, and this is my plan, to pass my test and get a little car. I too live rurally and it’ll make such a difference.

I’m very excited for you, OP! Get to the beach asap.
