Starting a factory job on Monday

and i'm really nervous! My 'working' background is admin/secretarial. My last job I was in for 11 years and I was the office manager.

Circumstances, etc. I applied for a factory job last week, thinking I wouldn't even get a look in, but I got it.

I'm scared beyond belief!

Be yourself, you will be fine, all the best

Why are you scared? You’re a capable adult with work experience. You will be inducted and taught to do the job. You were hired because you’re capable.

I've never done this kind of work before! I feel like i'm going to embarrass myself and be told not to come back on day one.

What will you actually be doing??

OntheBorder1 · 22/06/2025 03:59

I had only worked in admin and ended up doing some jobs classed as labouring when I worked for an agency. I enjoyed those jobs far more than I ever did admin.

They will show you what to do and you will pick it up - you will be fine.

I just thought I would update! I have been there three weeks now, Monday coming marks the start of week 4. I have made some epic fuck-ups. Dropping stuff, injuring myself, dropping more stuff! I think I am getting it though, and the people are fab. A total change for me, but I think a good one.

It shows how adaptable you must be. Sounds like you are smashing it. Well done!

Redflagsabounded · 12/07/2025 22:49

Glad it's going well. I did factory temping years ago and while I wouldn't have stuck with it long-term, it was oddly quite enjoyable. No responsibility, easy work once you get the hang of it, radio playing, friendly people.

Chinsupmeloves · 12/07/2025 22:56

The employers will be aware you're more than capable so you need to think the same thing.

You will be trained and so just go with it. Apprehension is far worse than being there for everything. Xxx

My years working in factories/warehouses were amongst the happiest in my life! What kind of factory work? I adored order picking. As PP said with the radio banging out. Beats lawyering. I still miss it tbh!
