Made Facebook argument personal

Clutteredmind · 21/06/2025 17:17

I shared an opinion on a local Facebook page, going against the grain, not a single other person appeared to have my opinion.
Basically, a loud event has been shut down by the council and changed so they can’t play loud music and disturb other people. Lots of people going, lots of people apologising, lots of complaining about the change.
I agreed that the noise should be tuned down. It’s something I feel strongly about. Theres a lot of antisocial behaviour in my town. I got piled on by people that don’t agree with my views. Got a lot of abuse.
Got told I’m being laughed at and my responses were reasonable until that point (in my opinion). I snapped. I replied with a personal attack about their appearance, basically said they are an insecure with no personal identity. Fake blonde hair, lashes, looks the same as all the others. Got a rush, and instant regret. I’ve tried to assert myself and am going to come away from it now. Be kind

How can you be acting like the victim here?!

have you read all of my comments

Most people commenting on public Facebook pages are nutters and you’ve joined them

rogerthat45 · 21/06/2025 18:10

Op I wouldn’t bother with this thread. The irony of MN users telling you off for posting a nasty comment online is hilarious. This place is a cesspit of horrible comments. At least you had the courage to post your true thoughts under your own name, not hiding behind anonymity like so many people do here. Perhaps not the wisest move and not to be repeated however.

dollyblue01 · 21/06/2025 18:10

It was probably fine until you made it personal, why comment on how someone looks ? What is it to you ? Should have stuck to comments about the event only.

Yes, you sound the typical Facebook fishwives that are all over the awful local
Facebook groups, but making it personal was taking it a step further

Clutteredmind · 21/06/2025 18:16

What’s a fish wife

You sound like someone who can’t hack anyone having a different view from you. And no, I won’t ’be kind’ because you clearly aren’t.

I would just delete the comment . And avoid facebook from now on.
Its a awful thing anyway. And does just seem to cause people stress.

ilovesooty · 21/06/2025 18:24

I have read the full thread and I still think you're in the wrong and your behaviour has been at the very least unwise. I get into the odd disagreement on Facebook but I wouldn't put myself at risk by being personally insulting to people in local groups.

ARichtGoodDram · 21/06/2025 18:32

"Be kind"

There's always a real irony when people who have been nasty expect kindness in return.

Gazelda · 21/06/2025 18:35

Do you know these people personally? Is there any likelihood you’ll see them out and about?

they were apparently abusive to you. You were abusive back. You’re no better than they are. But at least they didn’t make it personal.

delete the comment. Apologise on the post. And then maybe stay off FB for a bit.

saraclara · 21/06/2025 18:54

Have you deleted it? And have you apologised?

Yes, people have been unpleasant and rude to you, but stooping to their level, and worse, making your comment about someone's appearance (which has nothing to do with the original argument) was wrong.

Taking the high road and apologising to that person and admitting that you went too far, is the only way out of this.

Clutteredmind · 21/06/2025 18:06

I’m not asking you or anyone if you think I’m right. That’s a misunderstanding. I feel shaken by the experience

Edited

How on earth are you shaken by the experience when you were the one who was nasty and unnecessarily so?!

And yes, I have read the full thread.

Uricon2 · 21/06/2025 19:55

You're clearly not in the slightest bit sorry about what you said so I have no idea what the purpose of this thread is.

DeSoleil · 21/06/2025 20:09

There are two rules to Facebook arguing and breaking either of them makes you an instant loser!

  1. Never comment on their profile photo or appearance.
  2. Dont reference Hitler or the Nazi’s when I suiting someone’s views.
okydokethen · 21/06/2025 20:10

Be kind? You be kind..

Gingerkittykat · 21/06/2025 20:56

Just block the people involved and move on.

They got personal, a number of times, before I did.

You haven't specified what they said though, so what are we supposed to think?

SlashBeef · 21/06/2025 21:16

Stop the 'be kind' shtick expeditiously. You can't even take your own advice.
