Will my rings ever fit again? 5 months postpartum

35 years old. 5 months postpartum with twins - third pregnancy. Had oldest child just before my 30th birthday. I think I’ve spent more of my married life with my rings off than on!

I currently weigh about a stone less than when I took them off at the beginning of the most recent pregnancy and they still won’t go back on. Are my fingers just going to be permanently swollen from now on? I have three rings (engagement, wedding, and eternity - all platinum and all with diamonds in) and it would cost a small fortune to have them resized 😕

Tell me your experiences! Anyone else finally manage to get theirs back on after a long wait? Or did you end up resizing?

My youngest is now 8 and I have given up entirely on my rings ever fitting again, sorry. It’s not even about my weight, my fingers are just bigger now.

MrsApplepants · 16/06/2025 10:18

I’d just re size them. It doesn’t cost that much. Do one at a time to spread the cost if necessary

It’s relative; one of mine was going to cost £200. Married a long time and gold was cheaper then, I think the cost of re-sizing was greater than the original purchase price. So ‘just resize’ probably isn’t helpful. But I do think my fingers are bigger now too.

Opposite story: I forgot to take my wedding ring off while pregnant and then I couldn’t.. It took me 4 years to be able to wiggle it off, and that was after 6 months of very strict diet (removed all processed food, all salt and sugar and everything else that contributes to bloating)

Not in my experience!

repeatingabaselessclaim · 16/06/2025 13:09

In my experience it wasn't the width of my fingers changing it was my knuckles.
I haven't been able to get my original band or engagement ring to go on any finger but my baby finger for years.
I too went through the resizing after second DC but then eventually it became too large and I did without.
Now I wear one I chose myself that I really love and I don't think my fingers are going to change anymore.

These replies aren’t filling me with hope! 😩

Resizing not straightforward and would be around £500 in total for all three rings 😔

I did manage to get them back on between first and second pregnancy, and second and third pregnancy, but I can’t remember how long it took. I guess I just have to decide how long to wait before giving up all hope.

My fingers swelled up a lot with both pregnancies. I can’t remember when I started to wear my rings again, but I recall it took a good long while. They did eventually fit again and I didn’t need to get them re-sized.

My youngest is a teenager and I still can’t get my rings on. I weigh nearly two stone less than I did when I got married but my rings won’t go over my knuckles.

Somethingsnapped · 16/06/2025 20:02

I have 4 children... Youngest 4 years old, and my rings won't fit on my ring finger anymore. Like others, I can't get mine over the knuckle now. I wear my wedding rings on my little finger now, and dh bought me a lovely ring to wear on my ring finger.

CrabbyCat · 16/06/2025 20:09

I had to get mine resized too. I could get them back on after DC1 and DC2, but like others after DC3 my knuckles just didn't shrink again.

My feet have stayed a tiny bit bigger too. I used to be in the middle of two size, and would go up or down depending on the shoe. Now I'm always the upper size, and my pre pregnancy shoes in the smaller size don't fit. One of the downsides of pregnancy I really didn't twig before hand!

Wallabyone · 16/06/2025 20:56

Another who has had to get all three resized! I weigh a bit more, but my knuckles are different now (and don’t get me started on my pre-children shoes-my feet grew too! 😭)
