Lack of effort on father's day

I was looking forward to fathers day, didn't expect a new car or anything, just some effort to show I'm appreciated.

Woke up and went downstairs, had to make my own cup of tea. Eventually got round to handing me a present...socks and a tankard. One card suggested I'm a grumpy chimpanzee, the other was shaped like a tie...I never wear a tie.

Had to make my own lunch cos they were all out at a birthday party. Tea was the usual, no nice pudding and I had to fill the dishwasher.

Next year I'm going to book a night alone at a hotel.

Sorry just adding balance to mumsnet cos I felt there weren't enough fathers day disappointment threads.

What happens on Mother’s Day?

Cherrycola4 · 15/06/2025 21:47

Sounds like you had a lovely peaceful day.

ninjahamster · 15/06/2025 21:49

If you always make an effort for Mother’s Day, then that sounds unfair.

Are you someone who enjoys the fuss of the day, and have you articulated that to your family? I get it, it sounds a bit flat and disappointing.

If it makes you feel any better, we organised a nice afternoon tea for my dh with a nice present. He didn’t like either.

My kids didn't get dh anything. He's not in the least but bothered. They love him very much. He knows this.

DH spent 5 hours proofreading DS dissertation, DS bought him a Chinese takeaway and tried to make me chip in, cheeky git.
