In praise of the cold water bottle

It's just a hot water bottle filled with cold water, but it's so helpful when it's really hot.

I've had the first one of the year tonight.

Does that actually work? Might give DS one as he gets so hot and bothered!

Overtheatlantic · 14/06/2025 21:57

Is it a Yeti or Stanley? Those keep ice for hours.

AhTheFuckening · 14/06/2025 21:58

Yes, it really does for me 🙂.

I just mean plain old rubber / plastic hot water bottle for feet.

A couple of years ago I discovered the dog cooling mats, stick it under the sheet and enjoy full body coolness. I did see the other day that B&M are now selling human cooling blankets which I plan to get for DD.

AhTheFuckening · 14/06/2025 22:04

They sounds amazing @InfoSecInTheCity.

It's just so nice to get some relief when it's so warm.

I never thought of that, does it really work ?

AhTheFuckening · 14/06/2025 22:06

Yep, please try it and report back 😄!

That is a very good idea!

AlphabetBird · 14/06/2025 22:07

I give the kids a damp, very well wrung out muslin when it’s horrible and hot. They are magic for cooling you off, and if they warm up you just need to flap them about a bit and they cool down again! Perfect for getting to sleep with.

MagentaRocks · 14/06/2025 22:09

I use an old hot water bottle to cool me down. I put a little bit of water in it and freeze it. Take it to bed, have a fan pointing towards it. It does help.

freezing could damage the rubber so if you do this don’t use it for normal hot water bottles when you are cold

Purplestorm83 · 14/06/2025 22:12

I think any plastic bottle of cold water would help

Thanks @AlphabetBird, I'm going to try this too. I have about a million hot cloth cleansing cloths that would probably work.

I’ve done frozen bottles of water wrapped in old towels before now - they work a treat!

Sunnydayze43 · 14/06/2025 22:25

DD and I love our hot water bottles and we're sorry to put them away for the summer.
We've often joked about putting cold water inside instead of hot but we've never done it, good to know that it works I imagined it would feel clammy somehow?
Not as nice as a warm bottle on a cold night 😂

AhTheFuckening · 14/06/2025 22:27

Not clammy, honest 😄!

Second this, I usually just wrap it in a v light cloth
between that and stealing the cats cooling mat it’s very comfortable!

I have " ice globes" and a jade face roller which I keep in the freezer as I get headaches around my temple
i also have a cold gel first aid thing I put inside my pillow
I would be concerned the rubber would perish
