“Fun” GF family meal for Father’s Day

Teenage DCs want to do a meal for their dad on Sunday. Usually we would do something like pizzas or fajitas so it’s a team effort and fun to make / assemble all together. But DH has recently become gluten intolerant so we are struggling for ideas.

We would be grateful for any fun suggestions - ideally something we can do together. Thank you!

A curry with various side dishes. Or a roast dinner.

pimplebum · 13/06/2025 20:09

Poor man that’s shit

you can get gluten free tortillas in Sainsbury’s

Spirallingdownwards · 13/06/2025 20:09

You could still do fajitas but he has his without a wrap and has some sides.

Warburton's gf wraps for fajitas
Nachos
Tacos

Roast would be top favourite here.
Then eton mess for dessert.
and we usually do salad for summer roast instead of cauliflower or parsnips

Amazing. Thank you. I didn’t realise nachos and tacos are naturally GF (still learning!). That’s perfect.

Thanks 😍

Fondu with small potatoes being dipped in?
Also, can I suggest Daim cake for dessert? Very tasty and GF.

Check tacos etc as some have wheat (authentic ones do not) if intolerant rather than coeliac “may contain” should be ok but monitor that, rice, maize and potatoes do not contain gluten

Watch the stock cubes or spice sachets for mexican - you'll probably need to make your own I imagine.

Just checked Sainsbury's fajita mix (if you're in the UK) and it looks fine so you might be ok actually.

I'm GF, the rest of the family isn't. We regularly have fajitas with GF spice mix, GF wraps for me and care to avoid 'double dipping' the guacamole and sour cream to avoid cross contamination of the dips.

My son is cooking dan dan chicken noodles on Sunday. It's peanut butter and soy sauce (GF) based sauce. Rice noodles for me, egg noodles for everyone else. Super simple. I can share the recipe if you like (probably not authentic, it came from one of those supermarket food magazines)?

Pulled pork with rosemary roasted potatoes; gf stuffing and baps, apple sauce, coleslaw

Thank you. It’s the “teamwork assembly” all together that appeals as it’s Father’s Day so I’m thinking GF fajitas.

We've just finished our fun Friday night movie night meal of fajitas. In our case, it's DS who is GF but exactly as others have said, it works well. The mix is fine (we make our own, but most supermarket packets are ok too), DS has separate GF wraps, and we make sure he goes first with the soured cream etc and we all avoid the double dipping.
Another favourite for us is nachos with spicy chicken wings 🙂

Slices of apple are AMAZING dipped in cheese fondue. As are little pickled onions... 😋

ChocHotolate · 13/06/2025 20:49

Be careful there will almost certainly be wheat / gluten in the gravy on a roast. Most places can do a GF gravy if you ask

SatsumaCat · 13/06/2025 20:51

You can make gf pizza easily. I use Becky Excell cookbooks and my fave of her pizza recipes is in the quick and easy book.

AdaColeman · 13/06/2025 20:59

Sushi is a fun thing to make with a group. No need to use raw fish! You can use vegetables, tinned tuna, cooked prawns, smoked salmon etc.

PollyHutchen · 13/06/2025 21:19

Stuffed pancakes made with buckwheat rather than wheat flour are also very good.
