Help - travelling tomorrow, passport in washing machine

LtGreggs · 13/06/2025 17:20

DS1 is flying to Spain with friends at 6am tomorrow.

He has just put his passport through the washing machine. Currently drying out - I'm not yet home from work to see it, he says it looks quite bad overall but plastic photo page looks OK.

Any advice/experience in whether he will be able to travel & what we could do?

Hope it works for him!

Longhotsummers · 13/06/2025 22:17

Unless he’s checking in bags, he won’t need to show it tomorrow apart from at the gate. Then they’re only interested in the hard plastic page.

I washed DPs passport and it all dried out nicely, photo clear and still scanable however Ryanair refused to allow him to board his flight. He was able to buy a flight via jet2, same route who let him fly! It’s risky as the airlines are fined (I think) if they let someone fly whose passport is rejected at the other end so some are more cautious than others
. At this point though he may as well just give it a go!

Can’t help you but crossing my fingers you all get to sleep well tonight, and your son gets his holiday! 🤞🤞🤞
Please update with the outcome ☺️

Well I guess he had no option but to try.

This happened to my dh. Accepted it going out but we had to sign something to say if we weren't allowed in to Greece it was on us. Was all fine.

sparrowflewdown · 13/06/2025 23:31

Good luck. Everything crossed.

My cousin had a similar issue. She was permitted to fly to Turkey but on arrival they were not happy. They allowed her to enter the country but said she wouldn’t be so lucky if she tried it again

fingers crossed!

LoudSnoringDog · 14/06/2025 07:53

Did he get on the flight?

TokyoSushi · 14/06/2025 08:01

Also interested to know if he got on, I really hope so!

Ilovegoldies · 14/06/2025 08:04

Brilliant! Was anything said about the passport?!

angelinawasrobbed · 14/06/2025 09:12

He’s just got to be let through at the other end …

I fly regularly with Ryanair and easy jet and I’ve never I’ve had to show my passport for a scan before flying? But I’ve never had checked in baggage, I just scan my boarding pass and then pass through security. The airline may want to see a proof of holding a passport but I’ve honestly gone through without even doing that multiple times

I think you must be misremembering!

Are you trying to claim that you go to the airport and have boarded multiple planes in the past without showing your passport to anyone?

Surely you're not trying to claim something so ridiculous as being true 😂

No you haven’t 🤣

And what does passing through security have to do with anything?

ChompandaGrazia · 14/06/2025 18:16

He might be on the flight but has he got through passport control at the other end?

I hope so since he was flying to Spain ( presumably from the UK )and on the plane at 8.00 this morning.

🙂

LtGreggs · 14/06/2025 20:18

Yes he's also been let in to Spain!

Hopefully he'll also make it home next week 😀
