Just looking for anyone who can relate...speeding cars

I bought a house in 2023 after a period of homelessness for my children and I. I was desperate which hijacked my ability to make informed decisions.

Just looking to hear other people's frustration/upset/resentment with the road they live on in relation to speeding and noisy cars.
Please.

I feel anxious and angry about the road we live on. It is wide and long and straight so people actually use it to race on. Everybody, and I'm not exaggerating, speeds, even buses. The road isn't usually bumper to bumper busy (which may actually help), but a steady stream of cars and the smell of rubber or fuel burning off as they speed by! My son has a blue badge, but we can't park outside as its not safe. I hate driving now, I hate how much this occupies my mind.

I have put in a fence and planted cherry laurels and birch saplings. I want to move so badly, but other than us being on a street that Edinburgh buses come down, I worry about who will ever want to buy this house on this road.

Please share any stories anyone has on living with other people's shitty inconsiderate driving!

It sounds like it needs traffic calming measures. I've no idea how you get these installed but I imagine it comes from people living on the road making complaints and suggestions, at least in part anyway. Is there a department you can complain to or a residents group you can join?

I feel for you we used to live on a road that people speed down to avoid the busier one way system part. Our front door was straight onto the pavement as well which was scary as people on bikes used to whizz down the pavement as well.

Have you approached your local councillor?. Our councillor managed to get those wires put across the road that measure speed but unfortunately it still didn't result in speed bumps but at least it felt like we were doing something

Hey @GreenLeavesInJulythanks for replying. I have emailed council and local MP. They agreed to drop the speed limit to 20mph, greyed out the 30mph signs, then stopped due to 'public objections'. There are lots of speed signs greyed out locally because of this.

Some places close by have 20mph signs but that seems to have made traffic worse, just people taking over !
