He was 82 but hadn't been right for some time. What an incredible musical legacy he leaves behind. A real visionary and studio innovator. An extraordinary talent.

I'm sadder than I thought I'd be at this news; knowing he’d been unwell.

Saw him at The Royal Festival Hall a few years ago now. Pet Sounds tour. One of the best concerts I've ever seen. A privilege to be there.

Such a talented genius. So vulnerable.

Words bandied around frequently but true here.

PullTheBricksDown · 11/06/2025 18:10

Ah how sad, even though he'd lived to a good age. So very, very gifted.

Beyondburnout · 11/06/2025 18:10

One of a kind may he rest in peace

FlatErica · 11/06/2025 18:27

That’s very sad. He was a fantastic musician and a real one off.

FlatErica · 11/06/2025 18:30

Sly Stone died this week as well. It’s only Wednesday and we’ve lost two legends!

slownova · 11/06/2025 18:34

I just saw that, how sad he was a genuine genius at his peak. He lived a lot longer than many expected but was in poor health for a very long time. May he find the peace in death that he felt missing in life.

Anyone reading please listen to Pet Sounds or Today or any Beach Boys Music its all so beautiful ang Love and Mercy was good as well Paul Dano did a good job of portraying Brian Wilson in his younger years, I'm a bit less keen on the John Cusack part but sill worth a watch.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 11/06/2025 18:52

At the beginning of Love and Mercy they play Don’t Worry Baby with just his isolated vocals - it is just beautiful, almost angelic

slownova · 11/06/2025 18:55

@NooNakedJacuzziness His vocals were beautiful, one of my favourite male vocalists of all time along with Gram Parsons. Both very gifted and tragic figures in their way.

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/06/2025 18:58

Amazing talent. I'm grateful for his life.💔
Pet Sounds is one of my favourite albums.🐕

Ohwhydothesky · 11/06/2025 18:59

I walked down the aisle to "God Only Knows ". It has been a good marriage so thanks Brian for that. The brothers are back together again. Bless them as they had a troubled start with a monster of a father.Rest in peace Brian.

SpottedDonkey · 11/06/2025 19:02

Brian Wilson truly was a musical genius and, like many other geniuses, he led a difficult & troubled life. Given the extent of the mental & physical health challenges he battled with for many decades, he did very well to make it to 82. I believe he found a degree of stability & happiness in later life, thankfully.

The music he created will be played & loved forever. Good Vibrations was a masterpiece which redefined what was possible in popular music. Paul McCartney called God Only Knows the ‘greatest song ever written’.

RIP

Nitgel · 11/06/2025 19:03

What great music he gave us. Rip Brian.

sparrowflewdown · 11/06/2025 19:06

Yes, I am very sad to hear this news. Rest in peace Brian. An absolute genius and comparable to any classical composer.

I am going to The Beach Boys festival in July, not that Brian would've been there as he hasn't played with Mike Love for a long time due to their differences but it will be a poignant day. The Sunflower album and Surfs Up being my favourite albums.

Thought are with his family. A very sad day.

suburburban · 11/06/2025 19:15

I’m very sad. Loved the beach boys since my teens.

RIP Brian

Another of the musical legends of my time gone. So sad.

rightoguvnor · 11/06/2025 20:14

I’m rather sad too
’Do It Again’ is my favourite, reminds me of some marvellous times.

TheTecknician · 11/06/2025 20:14

I believe Neil Diamond was a bit of a fan. He recorded a very respectable version of God Only Knows for his 1977 album I'm Glad You're Here With Me Tonight. BW guested on ND's album 12 Songs in 2006.

Soundtrack to my young teenage years . Bit of a mess really though wasn't he ? Old school star with drugs and groupies . Didn't seem to bring him much happiness and I am amazed he lived this long. Amazing musical genius .

slownova · 11/06/2025 20:36

@Soonenough I think he wasn't a bad person, he was abused as a child by his father who wanted to exploit his son's musical gifts, he was deaf in one ear probably due to a blow to the head from his father in childhood. He had serious mental health issues (not helped by drugs) starting fairly early on and was further exploited by Dr Eugene Landy and even accusations that his second wife Melinda exploited him, forcing him to tour when he didn't want to and was unwell. For all his genius and iconic status he had a somewhat tragic life.

Pedallleur · 11/06/2025 21:52

The whole live in psychiatrist thing was weird and the piano in the sandbox. But a talent at songwriting and being creative. Saw him a couple of times. He had a great band that carried him. He just had to sing the songs and his band did the rest

TheTecknician · 11/06/2025 22:13

Of his time and a true survivor to the last.

Erm he was the creative mastermind behind The Beach Boys have some respect.

whatsappdoc · 11/06/2025 22:53

Beautiful man. I'm really sad but honestly couldn't believe he'd lived so long. Such a tortured genius, his life plagued by mental illness and a decade of abuse by his psychiatrist but I like to think he found happiness in his later years. RIP Brian and as a wag on Reddit said Keep on fucking with the formula.
