Can I drink a coke after a solpadine?

I am having some bad headaches lately. They are migraines but unfortunately I don't have the option to go to bed and sleep it out and I need to keep on going.

Just after taking a solpadine. I wonder can I drink a coke after 1 solpadine.

Yes. Why ever not?

uncomfortablydumb60 · 10/06/2025 14:48

Yes Ice cold always helps and a sleep mask put in the freezer

2 solpadeine is the recommended dose

Lots of migraine sufferers drink coke at the onset of a migraine as the sugar and caffeine can help (I prefer cans of chilled coffee).

I find cocodamol (same drugs as Solpadeine) and a coke really does knock a headache on the head for me.

Co codamol is around £3.50 for the same amount of codeine too

Have you had your eyes tested recently?

I get a triptan based medication for my migraines as long as I take them at the right time my migraines gone within the hour usually.

I find eletriptan more effective than codeine - it’s great for when you have to keep going. I drink full sugar lemonade. Sometimes that works alone.

Ponderingwindow · 11/06/2025 16:52

i used to drink coke with my migraine meds all the time. It was practically made for treating migraines. Just make sure you get the full sugar kind as artificial sweeteners and migraines are a bad mix.

Can’t anymore just because I have adult onset allergies and can’t drink it. Now I have ginger beer and a caffeine pill.

Naratriptan nasal sprays are a godsend for migraines.I used to get them regularly, so bad that I couldn't function for a couple of days. A new Dr prescribed the sprays and my life literally changed. If taken at first sign of migraine I was able to get through the day/s and although sometimes wasn't at my best I was vertical and could function. No longer needed but fir me were literally a lifesaver.

It’s not as high a dose of codeine. It’s usually only 5mg whereas Solpadine is 12.8. You can get a Boots own version but it’s still around £8/9.

I have chronic back pain and take 2x 30/500 3-4 times a day. I have a can of full fat Coke (because IDGAF) with my tea every night. It’s absolutely fine.

slowlydecaying · 12/06/2025 10:58

yeah I take Solp Max soluble, this has 12.8mg of codeine and caffeine in, you will be fine

This - you have to take any medication for migraines as soon as possible as your digestive system shuts down with a migraine. Triptans are the best , any other do not touch a migraine.
