Skin splitting/sore in butt crease? Just above anus. Help?!

I keep getting this over the last few weeks. I think it actually almost healed, then I split the cheeks apart to have a look, and now it's split again? When I dab with loo roll there's a tiny amount of blood. Does anyone else get this? I have a condition called lichen sclerosus, but it doesn't affect me there so I'm not sure it's that.

It's not pilonidal sinus - there's no cyst or lump.

Use sudocrem for a couple of weeks.

Lichen Sclerosus CAN affect you there!

I would not be trying to look, although it's natural curiosity to check, I realise this.

Clean with non perfumed cream emollient, on damp cotton wool and dry gently. And apply a hairdryer ( on low!) to the area to ensure the area is dry.

You can treat it with steroid cream but you need something stronger than otc 1% Hydrocortisone, I would make an appt with your GP.
Also, you can get a fungal infection colonising the area at the same time, so some canesten cream might well help. Do discuss this with your GP to exclude any other causes.

Why wouldn't you look?

It sounds from the OP, that, in the process of looking, she has opened up the lesion again.

Sounds like you have something called moisture associated damage- it can happen when areas of skin are moist and become fragile- you need to make sure you wash and dry the area thoroughly twice daily. You can also buy a barrier cream - I would recommend medihoney barrier cream or cavillon can buy on Amazon

DifferentChild · 10/06/2025 10:47

It’s very likely to be the lichen Sclerosis it can affect the whole genital/anal area and make the skin very fragile. You need to apply a steroid cream like Dermovate to the sore area for few days and then may need a maintenance dose to prevent it recurring. If you have been diagnosed with lichen sclerosis it can flare unexpectedly.

WutheringTights · 10/06/2025 10:50

Could also be jock itch.

KitCar1 · 10/06/2025 11:36

I’ve had something similar. Washed area throughly in shower with sanex shower gel. Dried area throughly, used canesten on the area for a few days, avoided wearing thongs and it seems to have gone. Had it years ago and was a fungal infection like jock itch

I’ve had this there before - as PP said, I just made sure to keep it very clean and very dry for a while (patting rather than rubbing dry) and it improved dramatically within a couple of days.

Thanks for responding! Was there a tiny bit of blood when you had it too? Just when wiping that area with loo roll

Yes I did get some blood last time around when dabbing with loo roll. Freaked me out too, I went to pharmacist and they told me fungal infection so I didn’t need to get my bum out 😅

Yes, just a tiny bit (like red spots) but the area stung like fuck when it was wiped. It healed really quickly once I actually looked after it.

spikefaithbuffyangel · 10/06/2025 12:06

I get this when I’ve done too many spin classes! You want hydromol ointment
wash with it then slather it on once you’ve patted the skin dry
