Moving house and want to be more organised!

Hello ladies,

I am moving house shortly and starting packing. I am trying to help myself be a better more organised version of myself when I get to the new house. So far, this has only consisted of organising stuff as I go so packing boxes for which room in the new house they’ll go, rather than where it is now.

If you were to move and start afresh, what systems would you put in place to make sure you stayed more organised than you are now?

I'm not sure from what you'ce written whether you have a lot of excess stuff but I did and moving house was the perfect time to let go of so much of it.

I ended up renting a storage unit for a short while so I move only with the essential stuff for a while which made it much easier to set things up. Much of the stuff in storage I then let go of - I really didn't want it to come in and clutter up my home. If you have time to declutter as you pack that would be better still.

I tried to pack the essentials for living in a box or two so I wasn't opening boxes trying to find those items in the first few days of moving it

In the new home I tried to have clear zoning for things - so everything needed for a particular activity are all together in that one area rather than spread around the room (s).

I try to do a daily walk through the house to pick up any items lying around before it builds up

I do a load of washing a day and focus on bedding on warm windy days when it dries more quickly.

I've encouraged others to do their fair share si it doesn't all fall on me.

I just try to do bits each day rather than have an all or nothing mentality.

I do have a fair bit of stuff but a lot has been declutterred recently. I probably need to be a bit more brutal though as there is still a lot of stuff.

We are moving to a bigger house with a couple of spare bedrooms which makes it easier but I don’t want to just grow and fill the spare space.

i like the idea of clear zoning put in place straight away, it would make it easier to keep on top of things as I get overwhelmed sometimes right now.

If you can afford it I would look into an organising service.
