Unicorn job to do it all?

I think what I’m after is a unicorn job that doesn’t exist. I am currently in the corporate world and getting a bit fed up if i am honest.

What I would like:

  • school hours with potentially 1 day off a week (or alot of the school holidays)
  • alright pay
  • not too stressful but not mundane

I want to be there for my children and in an ideal world, not work and volunteer occasionally during the day at a charity shop and the local school.

Even writing that down I feel like this job doesn’t exist. A friend had recommended retraining as a teacher then being a high level TA to avoid the stress / workload which is an option but I do fear that these jobs are going with the cost cuts.

Any other unicorn jobs so you can work more part time and feel like you can be on top of the house, be there for your children and earn a bit of money on the side to pay the bills?

I think just working school hours / term times / having most of the school holidays off only really works if… you work in a school.

Impossible to manage staffing otherwise really.

I know a few people doing fully remote EA work which seems very flexible and fairly limited hours if you’re just looking for a small amount of income.

I love working with kids, and orginally wanted to be a teacher. Just after my degree was so burnt out after final year and no weekends off for 9 months (I lie I had 3 nights off and can actually count them) the idea of going straight into a PGCE put me off. I had a job offer and the money swayed it.

I do think the TA idea in school is probs the most ideal.

Thanks @MidnightPatrol i will look into EA jobs too. Just really fed up of mid management at the moment and I have no mojo for my job
