Why? ChatGPT might sharpen the image if you ask.

they have flytipped everything in the van at my Dad’s drive blocking access. My Dad sadly passed away in January so worried they’ll do it again unless we catch them.

Sorry to hear about your dad, pass the image and any other evidence to the police and the council, bvane of our lives and someone may have paid them to dispose of rubbish in good faith.

Summertimealready · 05/06/2025 11:18

As i understand it you can still report the fly tipping even if the number plate is blurred.
The council will have the technology to identify the vehicle involved.

Dbank · 05/06/2025 11:19

Can you supply the original video footage?

AndImBrit · 05/06/2025 11:20

You might be better trying to puzzle it out.

The first letter is B, K, R or X. It’s not possible to be an X so it’s B/K/R.

Next letter looks to be U/V/W/Y (something open at the top and weighted towards the bottom).

Then a 2, which means the next number is 1-5. I’d guess a 3 because of the bulk being on the right hand side.

Then I, O, Q, U and Z are out because they’re not in number plates.

You can then check iterations on the DVLA site to see if any match the vehicle type and colour. It might take a few hours but I think I’d quite enjoy the challenge if I had time!

I wouldn't advise you tackle them yourselves, it's best left to the police and the council, what would you do if you can identify the vehicle

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 05/06/2025 11:37

Does anyone else on the same stretch or road or nearby have CCTV or a video doorbell which may also have picked it up? Chances are it's actually someone local or who has worked locally and knows the house is unoccupied. Have you posted on local Facebook groups at all asking whether anyone else has footage?

Voyager54 · 05/06/2025 11:40

Regarding the index of the vehicle.

The Police have the facility on The Police National Computer to get the information required.

FadedRed · 05/06/2025 12:09

It looks like HW 2? (maybe 20 23 or 29) DHU to me at a glance, but that registration does not appear on a DVLA search.

We have O in our number plate?

Amandafm · 05/06/2025 12:35

We have reported to police and council as its council who issue the fine. They unfortunately don’t have the resources to investigate which is why I’m trying to provide the number plate. Think chat gpt has worked. Thanks everyone!

jesicat · 05/06/2025 12:36

Agree it looks like HW20 at the start of the reg

What part of teh country are you located in? That might help get the first bit as many local cars (especially newer ones) will have been registered in the local area and so have the local 'memory tag'-ie the first two letters of the reg. We are in Hampshire and so we see lots of HWs around!

When you have several possibles check on the government car tax website https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax and you might be able to see if it tallies with make and colour etc

johnd2 · 05/06/2025 15:38

Surely it's a fake plate, no sensible flytipper would use their actual plates would they?

Does it start with an O? Maybe just ignore me if not as I thought it could only start with an O

I’m chatting bubbles then 😅 I even googled to check what I thought was right before I posted, but clearer didn’t do enough due diligence!

Amandafm · 05/06/2025 18:41

We’re in Scotland but suspect given the circumstances this is travelling community and therefore not sure where the van is registered will be relevant here.
