Fucking peri-menopausal tiredness

I've been awake since 2:30 and I’m working today. At least that’s from home and I never speak to clients.

Can I have empathy and tips for getting through the day please?

Do you take magnesium glycinate at night?
Do you stop caffeine at 12md?
Do you exercise and have a good, constant bedtime routine?
Lots of empathy from me, I was awake from 4.30am yesterday, but I did make it through the day. I only seem to need a maximum of 7 hours now.

MinnieMountain · 05/06/2025 07:18

Yes to all 3.

I’m not allowed HRT before anyone mentions that.

I am peri and have a different problem. I sleep 8/9 hours a night and am still knackered for half the month. I hope you sleep better tonight.

I’m sure I will @vincettenoir . My period started yesterday and this is a hormone thing linked to that.

Now what can I buy at Waitrose on my lunch break to help?

I hear you! Despite going to bed at 10pm I was awake until 3am, then up at 6.30am with DD2 and need to get ready for work and to go into the office. I already feel like a zombie. I tell myself that if I can't sleep, lying in bed in the dark resting is the next best thing....but I'm still shattered.

MinnieMountain · 05/06/2025 07:40

It sucks doesn’t it @GameOfJones . At least I can hide.

I actually worked from 4-5am on the basis that it’s the most awake I’m going to feel all day. Goodness knows what my manager will think.

I find the day is never as bad as I’ve imagined. To get through - get fresh air if you can? I try to not deviate much from normal (although a 20 min lie down at lunch is not unreasonable if you’re at home) and I’m starting to realise that being the office can be easier than being at home as the extra stimulation from interactions helps and I shouldn’t be afraid to take on a normal day.

A senior woman at work who’s through all of this has been a brilliant mentor for me. On the worst days she’s provided empathy that it’s absolutely rubbish, a bit of a kick in the pants that I’ll get through it, and then makes me a coffee.

(as for how to avoid insomnia - aside from locking myself up in a low stress bubble, I’ve not figured that out!)

I have this one absolutely guaranteed terrible sleep a month too!

(If there’s nothing to buy that will help with sleep maybe buy dark chocolate on the basis that at least it cheers us up?)

vincettenoir · 05/06/2025 07:45

I like those Ella chocolate covered nuts and Taylor’s coffee bags.

IAmNeverThePerson · 05/06/2025 07:45

I got some melatonin in America and it has been an absolute game changer for this.

Waitrose lunch: Deli counter all the cheese. Also get posh crackers the little peppers with feta in (that i never buy as too expensive but always want)

Sunshineandrainbow · 05/06/2025 07:47

I feel you and occasionally take a boots sleepeaze so I can get a good sleep. Wouldn't want to take it every night though.

Let us know what you buy in Waitrose. Failing that have a nap at lunchtime.

Flamingoflop · 05/06/2025 07:55

Are you getting early morning light? Get outside for at least 10 minutes before 8am. I know it sounds a bit woo but it really helped me with sleep quality and early morning wakings and there is good scientific evidence to support it.

MinnieMountain · 05/06/2025 07:59

Fancy cheese is an excellent idea. I’ve got some nice chutney that needs to be eaten. I also love those stuffed peppers.

Funnily enough @Flamingoflop I was in the lido at 7am yesterday. I’ll try to get out early every day though.

Get your bloods tested. Ferritin levels etc. They need to be at optimal levels.

MinnieMountain · 05/06/2025 13:25

After a huge amount of dithering I got strength 2 goats cheese and ancient grain muffins to go with my special chutney for lunch.

On my way back I remembered that our corner shop sells biscoff Dairy Milk, so that’s supper 😀

Wow the muffins sound lush as does the choc bar 💞

socks1107 · 05/06/2025 22:18

Gosh yes. I’ve resorted to takingto zopiclone on average twice a week. I’m considering phenergen to stop the zopiclone.
I’m on hrt, do all the right things and yet some nights get zero sleep.
