How did you do pre night out late 90s early 00s

For me it was all meeting at a friend's house for pre going out drinks. Think the drinks were vodka and cola, ironing our hair, doing make up, mtv on in the background. I can't remember what I wore to go out though. Then we all jumped into a taxi and out to a club for around 10pm. I do remember it being my friends bedroom full of chat, gossip and fumes! Probably CK One.

Oh good lord. I can smell the watermelon Bacardi breezers just thinking about this 🤢.

i worked with friends so we would get our wages on a Friday evening and nip into town to buy last minute bits like thick vats of foundation or 40 cigarettes. Then we would pile into my bedroom and spend atleast 15 minutes applying our make up and complaining about our hair while knocking back Reef, hooch or Bacardi breezers. My favourite outfit was a pair of hideous blue/ purple colour changing light reflective pants and a navy bra and completely see through long sleeve mesh top. Platform sliders on my feet. I must have been bonkers, I was on £60 a week part time and I spent £35 of that on that bloody bra . These days I wince at anything over £15. Oh and at least 25lm of Jean Paul gaultier splashed across my upper body and a double layer of my favourite lipstick. It was rimmel and it was a dark frosted cherry colour. Different colour lip liner OBVIOUSLY.

A bottle of wine drunk swiftly to try to avoid spending any money in bars. TV was on in the background, sometimes we’d all get drawn into watching it while the taxi was outside waiting. But taxi was a pound each. Singing in the taxi. Would spend ages on putting on lots of glittery makeup. The torture hair straighteners that you put water in and had little combs on that would try to pull through your hair. Someone would come in (in shared house) wearing something inappropriate so may need to get changed. Discussion about who was taking a bag. Also taking a cheap cardi to avoid £1 in cloakroom. Putting plasters on feet ready for high heel pain. Getting ready was the best part of going out, good times.

If it was Saturday it started with watching the Brookside omnibus. Then drinks in someone's bedroom, vodka and Irn Bru measured with incredible precision for fear someone got more than their fair share. Our group were 50% smokers so if in a smoking house the room would be reeking of smoke, otherwise people would smoke out of the window and the room still probably reeked of smoke 😂 The goal was to get drunk and not have to spend much on drinks while out as pp said.

Then off to the pub at 11pm where we'd shuttle endlessly between the two young people pubs in the town, on the prowl for boys. Two hours in the pub then off to the local nightclub which was open till 4am back then. It was a bit of a shit hole but you'd have thought it was Studio 54 we were trying to get into, the attitude of the bouncers. Imagine the horror of your night out being cut short because they wouldn't let you in!

The night would end with a pizza and/or a doner kebab brought home. I was still living at home and didn't give a moment's thought to how all this might be for my poor parents.

All of this could be easily achieved for £15-20, including nightclub entry and taxis.

I remember sometimes getting my hair done at the hairdressers on a Friday afternoon. The cap to pull hair through getting highlights done 😫 the pain.

Smoking out of the bathroom window in my parents house. Taking turns at the mirror. Bus into town for us!

Bottle of Lambresco or Lambrini. Smoking out the bedroom window. Music on, heated rollers, embroidered matching suits from Karen Millen (black bootcut trousers and matching halter neck with beads and embroidery) or outfits that my friends had stolen from the local New Look (shameful, and yes, they did eventually get caught!). We used to get the bus into town, and a taxi back at midnight, then all sleep in one of our living rooms. Often we’d get a greasy kebab or burger before getting our taxi back.

Getting ready together was often better than the night out!

What was that pink wine in the round bottle? Usually knocked one of those back at home getting ready. Then a bottle of coke half emptied and filled up with vodka to drink on the tube.

After the club we would all go back to some random house for a party until 7am. Then home quick shower and away to work home a quick sleep and away back out again. Wish I still had the energy. I had friends that would buy a new outfit then return them during the week.
