Medical question. Please help an anxious mum. 🙏🏼

My daughter has had so many medical issues in her life meaning a multitude of tests and medications that we deal with. All issues related to her stomach/digestive system.

However, for a very long time, she has complained of knee pain. I have often brushed it off as it’s not felt that significant compared to everything else. And I have also mentioned it to her paediatrician who didn’t dwell on it either. She was underweight, so I kind of thought that her body might just not be quite functioning right.

Anyway, she is now thankfully at a suitable weight for her height but the knee pain persists in both knees, on the inner section, from the inner left of the knee cap, up and over the knee cap. She says it mainly hurts climbing stairs and also running. She is now at a weight where I can get her into sports, but her sore knees are stopping her.

I am going to take her to the GP next week, but I just worry so much about this kid! I get anxious for every medical appointment and I’m sort of spiralling about what this could be?

Her stomach issues are likely unrelated, but we don’t have a strict diagnosis on that yet. She is trialling a treated for gastroparesis at the moment.

id be really grateful for any insight and advice. I’m just a worried mum, which I’m sure you can all relate to. Thanks.

If it’s mainly sore when she’s moving it I’d probably take her to a physio as well as seeing your GP.

Thank you. I am going to see if the GP can refer her for that. I’m just worried.

Is she hypermobile? Just as you mention possible Gastroparesis. Have a look at Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, in case you feel the symptoms fit

You could also consider a Podiatry referral for a Biomechanical Assessment, to see if she needs orthotics for her feet

Sounds like she might need orthotics for over pronation. Me and ds2 have this problem and get pain in this exact same area and our orthotics addresses it.

I was just about to say the same thing
