Do you know any nice hotels within 1hr from Stansted

Hello I’m hoping to get some help here if anyone sees this thread.

Last night I booked flights to London Stansted in October as it’s my husbands birthday and we have had a really rough year. Our very first holiday years ago was to London and we loved it so much, but now that I think about it, we might be better off going somewhere a bit quieter just the two of us and taking it easy.

Would anyone have any suggestions?

I was reading threads here and Cambridge looks really nice but some of the responses were saying to avoid certain hotels and I don’t really know what I’m doing now.

If anyone here has any advice or ideas for a really nice hotel that I could get to from Stansted airport easily enough, I would be really grateful.
Thanks a million x

If you go to Cambridge the University Arms and Gonville Hotel are both meant to be very nice.

Or another 15 mins up the same train line you have Ely, where Poets House and Peacocks are both nice.

Saffron Walden is nearer Stansted, Audley End is the station for it, it’s a lovely town, but don’t know about hotels.

Tuddenham Mill near Bury St edmonds is lovely.

Down Hall in Hatfield Heath is lovely, but it has been a few years since we visited. They have a spa too. Not sure how easy it is to get to though, unless you hire a car.

Friends of mine stayed in a palatial Airbnb just outside Cambridge, with beautiful country views. 20 min drive to the Park and Ride.

Ickworth House Hotel by Bury St Edmunds is lovely. It is the full 1hr.
Its a hotel in a country Manor House with gardens and grounds to explore.

That looks absolutely gorgeous but it says it’s closed for refurbishment for the winter, thank you so much for taking the time to post that recommendation. It looks really lovely x

Down Hall in Hatfield Heath. Spa, great food, countryside for a bit of wandering and only 20 mins from the airport
