Bright red blood in urine

8 replies

I have name changed for this. I'm 56, and had some bright red blood in my urine this morning, I noticed when I wiped. There was also some rust coloured blood. Not very much of either, but it was definitely there. I don't think it was menstrual blood due to my age, and it definitely wasn't from my bum.

I had a tiny bit of blood of few months ago, but as nothing else happened I forgot about it. Obviously I will be calling my GP, and I know this is cancer indicator. I also know there are options such as kidney stone and water infection.

Hoping there are posters who have had this, and it turned out to be nothing serious?

I have had visible blood in my urine before and it was just a UTI. You are doing the right thing getting it checked, please try not to worry!

Thank you. I have no other symptoms though?

I didn’t either! That’s why I was so surprised. Hopefully yours will be nothing to worry about either.

I had this with a UTI at Christmas this was the main symptom

@JimmyGiraffe

be on the safe side, do get checked

JimmyGiraffe · 04/06/2025 14:54

Yes I will definitely get it checked. How does the doctor find out if it’s an infection, as opposed to something worse, is it a water test?

Yes, they'll ask for a urine sample

My GP sent my sample off to the lab with this UTI and phoned me back a few days later to make sure the bleeding had stopped. I’ve had a couple of UTI’s before but this was the first time with blood in urine
