80s fancy dress/karaoke ideas

Hi,

I'm going to a friend's birthday party in a couple of weeks. She's asked for us to dress as an 80s singer and then to sing their song on karaoke.

a) I am a crap singer (but don't actually mind singing karaoke in this situation, surrounded by friends in a no pressure party)
b) I don't want to spend a lot of money on an outfit

I think the host will pick Madonna, she's a big fan.

Can any of you suggest an 80's outfit and song please,

80's outfit.....ra ra skirted, leg warmers and oversized t shirt. Or goth style....long black skirt studded t shirt?? No idea about songs....too much good stuff to choose from 😁

Or a coloured suit/track suit and gold jewellery and go as Prince?

Usual kind of clothes, back combed hair, big eyeliner and you could be Robert Smith from the Cure?

Or Rainbow eyeshadow, typical 80s rara skirt, and red hair... Cindi Lauper? Girls just want to have fun.

What are you working with naturally ? Dark hair? Light hair? Long / short ? A lot or hair in the 80’s was back combed within an inch of its life. Bananarama had longer hair, Alison Moyet was a bit shorter, Annie Lennox of course had an iconic look. Toyah was pink… that would be a fun wig. Sade was classic with her slick back hair and hooped earrings. Mel & Kim with their hats getting fresh at the weekend. You could do a generic New Romantic fairly easily with a sweepy fringe and maybe sing a Duran Duran song. I personally wouldn’t do a rara skirt and the whole neon thing because I didn’t really go for it at the time and I would t want to buy it just for one night.

Choose life t shirt and neon accessories. I did this to see a GM tribute night. You can use the t shirt as well when you’re finished..I wore mine for bed for a long while!

I love the dungarees ideas. I don’t actually have any but would potentially wear them again so wouldn’t mind buying some.

I have a choose life T shirt already, I’ll google that.

Obviously Dolly is a queen, would love to do her justice with 9-5, I mean I really really can’t sing but what I lack in talent I’ll make up for in enthusiasm.

Going in a tracksuit as Salt and Pepper…how comfy would I be :-)

Not entirely relevant but wasn’t there so many genres of music back then unlike today where most singers are one dimensional and boring!

How about getting a punky blonde wig black & white stripy T shirt black skinny jeans and going as Kim Wilde singing kids in America
