Pawnbrokers in York - is it still there?

Does anyone know? I once sold something to a pawnbrokers in York. It was years ago. I think the shop was near the city walls but I can’t remember properly. I would love to buy it back, although the chances are minuscule. I’m wondering if someone could help with what might be quite a cool thing?!

There are a number of pawnbrokers in York. You’d need to narrow it down.

Moneyspinners just through the mickegate bar onto blossom street and cash converters on Gillygate have both been shut for a good while now.

Are you wanting to know whether the shop is still there, or the item you sold them, as I can't work it out from your post, but perhaps I'm being a bit thick.

If you mean the shop, look on Google maps, if they're still there, it should come up on a search.

If you mean the thing, chances are the shop won't still have it, although I have no idea of the rate of turnover of goods in pawnbrokers. I suppose it could be anything from reselling the same day to hanging around until the end of time.

Does it have to be the same item you want, or could you just buy a replacement from anywhere?

Thanks! I didn’t realise there was more than one. I wish I could remember where this one is. I think near the city walls - maybe Fishergate?

Thank you for this. It was a traditional old-fashioned place rather than a Cash Converters - way before those became famous. I think it might have been on Fishergate.

Was it the shop that sold all sorts including cheap swords and army surplus on Fishergate? That's long gone.

I am want to know whether the shop is still there so I can try if the item is still with them, so both.

Already looked on Google maps but it’s not clear if these places are still open, or which one it was. I’m hoping that anyone who lives in York might be able to help with information or to just jolt a memory.

Yes I realise it’s a longshot! I have no kmowledge of rate of turnover goods in pawnbrokers, either. Yes, if I could get this thing back, I’d be super delighted. No, I can’t get a replacement. Many years have passed and the item has been on my mind.

It’s incredibly unlikely, but unlikely things happen all the time!

Yes I think it was this one. Ohhh that’s sad. I wonder how could find out where the stock went when it closed…

The bloke retired over a decade ago so you might be on a hiding to nothing with this one.

@eightyearslater I don’t think it as Bulmers, but thank you!

Will try to contact him. There’s a phone number on the site, maybe someone knows someone who knows someone. Chances are tiny, I know.
