Bad chicken? Or am I the chicken!?

I had a medium whole chicken in the fridge with the use by date as today. I have put it in air fryer to cook it so it won’t go to waste, didn’t notice any weird smell or discolouration at the time.
However, now it’s cooking, it STINKS! A horrible weird musty smell that took my breath away.
I don’t recall this happening before as I normally cook the chicken in the oven and leave it there to cook… but today I went in to make a cuppa tea and noticed the horrid smell!
Does this indicate the chicken was actually spoiled beforehand, or is this a normal thing when cooking it in the air fryer?
I’m always worried about getting sick from chicken, so maybe I’m just being paranoid?

I’ve no idea but I’d just chuck it in the bin ! Is the cost of a chicken worth the house stinking and everyone getting the shits…. I’d say no !

I'd chuck it too. Sometimes the rancid smell only becomes apparent as it starts cooking.

For the price of a chicken I wouldn't chance the food poisoning scenario.
Shitting and puking yourself inside out ain't no fun.

Thanks all, this is what I was worried about too! I’ll chuck it!🤢🤢
