Tidy up day photos or not

Youagain2025 · 01/06/2025 10:20

I have had a couple of constructive days but now i Need to clean my kitchen, stairs, hall living room and washing. My energy levels have gone to zero.

Normally when I feel like I may overly slack or fuck up i post a before picture because it kicks my arse to get it done because it sort of forces me to do it.

But in away I also done it to semi shame myself. But at the same time use it as a motivation to better myself.

So now I'm thinkng do I post a before picture to motivate myself. Or would that be going backwards mentally.

Also I bought 60 pairs of socks about 6 weeks ago. They are practically gone. Struggling to find socks . I swear the kids bin them.

I think if the photos help you, I know I always feel motivated when I read your posts, then definitely do it. I think we need to do whatever helps us and there's absolutely no harm in doing so on here. It's a site where people can read or hide a thread. I'd rather read your threads than the made up crap ones that continue for days. Yes... Socks are like tupperware in my house !!!

I am at an all time low with my house. I have zero motivation to sort stuff.
Would love any tips. Kitchen is the pits.

I also know what you mean about socks!!!!

Yeah it does help. In someways and it's mainly positive and motivating. But theres also the risk of negative reports but then that's the risk with posting. Hopefully it does motivate others not to get like me 😅

My threads do sometimes go on for a couple of days. They are real though 😅

Have you considered a time lapse video that you can post on social media and try and make some money as a bonus ? Cleaning videos are very popular

Then do it, you'll always get people who will be negative but they can hide the thread. The ones that are obviously made up like for eg being able to leave someone have a baby and move to the other side of the world in 30 mins are just an example of the ones that piss me right off. Funnily enough they don't get negative comments .

What strikes me about your posts, always, @Youagain2025, is that you seem to need to power on through tasks in a somewhat obsessive way, as if you’re unable to pause during them, to think about whether something is working or not, or just to rest. I remember your posts about redecorating your living room where you did the whole thing very quickly and the decided it was wrong, and redid all the paint, because I was on your front garden planters thread, not realising you were the same poster until I recognised the same attitude where you’d put down some gravel or something and decided it was wrong and had to be changed immediately.

This is absolutely not a criticism, by the way. I’m just saying that while absolutely you should posts if you find it helps you, I think you should also consider whether building in some pauses in whatever it is you’re doing might actually be of benefit, both to you and the project.

Sera1989 · 01/06/2025 10:57

Negative reports as in people post negative comments or they report your thread to MN? Why would someone do that for a "before" photo?

You mean TT type ones . I have no idea how to do them. Plus there's no way I want to be on camera like that.

I do like watching them though. But they don't motivate me. The comments wind me up 🤣

If it helps you then that's all that matters.

You could post a photo of a beautiful sunny meadow and someone would come along with a comment that shits all over it.

That's the internet for you, so fuck 'em 🤷‍♂️

Ah yes the gravel thing. Your slightly mixed up . The gravel has been down about a year - 18 months not sure but not long in garden world. It was all done to make it easier for me . But I didn't use a good quality weed membrane. I was struggling keeping it weed free. Also I was struggling keeping the area tidy with all the bins it just looked shit. So over the past few days you have seen me remove gravel. And turn that area into a hard surface for my bins.

The pausing thing i do pause sort of. Its just i try and do bigger type stuff when the kids are at their dad's or school holidays. So i feel like im pressed for time.

With the decorating type stuff where I have messed up and started again. That's because I can't see it till it's fucked 😅. Where most people would get a point tester do a small bit look at it and decide if it would work or not . I can't do that because I can't see till it's done sounds odd I know.

And its ok i didn't take it as criticism.👍

Adult dd distracted me with her stuff ....

Motivation has gone even more now.

Some of this is because the dog pulled the bin out.

Let's get started 😔

I find that often kitchens look worse than they are.

I just put on a 15 min clothes wash and used the 15 mins to push me . So i have binned the rubbish. Loaded dish washer. Wiped the sides down. Swept the floor . I just need to wash it . And I beat the washing machine time 😅

That honestly looks worse than it is if that makes sense op. It doesn't look like it would take too long to make a huge improvement. I admire your courage to keep trying to crack on with thinga despite your struggles so if posting helps you, crack on

I haven't done to well to be honest. I have just slap dashed really. I was getting distracted and on top of that wasn't really feeling it .

Only oldest dd is at school tomorrow but that means an early start . But I don't have the school run till Tuesday. So i could use tomorrow to hoover and wash the floors.

Going on holiday in just over a week . So that could be my fucus on time limits.
