Bedford is dull

Hi I’m wondering why Bedford is a dull town
it has such bad swimming teachers in Robinson pool and the pool was too cold in oasis and also a very busy and not nice place to go Bedford doesn’t have loads to offer rather then shops wich is what we need but Bedford needs to improve otherwise I will move out of Bedford and only visit to universal studios once it’s built as Bedford has only one place for grown ups and that’s vue cinema Bedford when there was a cineworld that sadly shut down

WHY BEDFORD

a super dull place to live and not many nice places.

would you live there

Hey Kettering has Wicksteed Park !
I love it there.
Don't diss Kettrin'

Lived there for around 5-6 years (my life made me) and used to cry on the way back home form the station when commuting from London - it felt so dead on a Friday night.
Park was good, esp when they still had the firework night there.

The word Bedford now looks hilarious, and I only want to be friends with people who read that and immediately voted for Bedford. Also, how did Swindon manage to get a minus percentage- isn't that mathematically impossible?

I love Bedford! I grew up there and still enjoy visiting the embankment, watching rowers, the beautiful flowers, trees, SAY doughnut shop, The Old Curiosity cafe up the other end, the cat cafe on the high street, a tasty sandwich at the piazza, Amici or Mama Concetta for dinner.

I’ve just realised most of my favourite things about Bedford are edible Grin.

Obvs the town centre shops are a bit run down, like most town centres sadly. But it has a nice feel about it. I’m currently planning to move back there and hoping Universal brings more money and prosperity to the whole area.

YABU.

There used to be so many good Italians. Sadly lots have gone now. RIP Rivabella and La Fontana.

Disclaimer : Italian Restaurants.

Also, lots of Italian people.

Peking Palace was once a Bedford mainstay too. Sad times.

I've never heard of this doughnut empire!

Oh you have to try SAY - Their donuts are amazing! They have a couple of other shops now too, and attend local markets etc so hopefully they’re here to stay.

And definitely try the Italians I mentioned - I remember the ones you mentioned from my youth - I think Santaniello might still be running!! - but these two do great food and have a lovely authentic atmosphere, always our go to for birthdays.

Yes I immediately voted for Bedford because Bedford is a pleasant enough town and Bedford has a lovely stretch of river and Bedford even has a castle area and a Bedford Park. Bedford.

Bedford.

Piggywaspushed · 03/06/2025 19:47

It could be the new motto !

'Bedford : a pleasant enough town!'

Gettingbysomehow · 03/06/2025 20:02

I'm from there originally. I hated it. I live in Somerset now. It's more rural but has a better vibe.

Mumto42005 · 04/06/2025 01:23

I like it in Bedfordshire having moved from Swindon. Although there is more to do around Swindon than here.

Bedford already has a motto, you can get T shirts with it on:

Bedford isn't shit:

I don’t think dull is the worst thing you can say about it!

But it’s no worse than any other small town and does have some positives - the river, the Vue and the area around it, Castle Road area, easy access to main roads and a good train line, beautiful small towns and villages all round - way too much development going on though and as usual no thought about congestion, traffic, new facilities etc.

I hope the Universal project helps the town as the centre is really run down but I think there are better words to describe it than dull.

Gettingbysomehow · 04/06/2025 07:35

I remember it in the 1960s as a kid. It was OK then, very nice in fact but it went downhill fast after that.
