Wooden Sword and flying

My dd2 is abroad (Europe) and has won a prize of an engraved wooden sword. It doesn't fit in her suitcase. It does look like a toy.
She's flying BA. Any chance she can get it home? Any suggestions for the best way?

I wondered about posting it, but if she can bring it back with her that would be better (and cheaper)

How big is this sword if it doesn't fit in a suitcase?!

Advent0range · 31/05/2025 23:10

Ha ha brilliant thread! Can she consider it her hand luggage? It's just the kind of thing my kids would do

Put it in a musical instrument case?

Posting it does seem like the simplest option.

Thanks all.
Found out that she only has hand luggage, hence not fitting in suitcase.
BA have a restriction on weapons, even toy weapons in the cabin, which is fair enough really.

She's found a friend who's travelling back on Eurostar who apparently will take it currently.

I never have these sort of dilemmas with the other two. It's just dd2 who makes life complicated in unexpected ways.
She's very good at finding people to do favours for her though.

Finding people to do favours for her is a talent that will serve her well in the future.

Great thread to start my Sunday - glad she got
sorted, I now know something about Eurostar v flying I didn’t know and great quote from @Cazziebo

I really want a big, engraved wooden sword now…

I really want to know how she won a big engraved wooden sword?

I will find out when she's back. Apparently 7 or 8 of them won them. Most will be flying home!

God I've been reading this all wrong. I thought your DD was aged 2. And wondered why on earth you were letting her have a sword at least as tall as her. And then why she only had hand luggage and was apparently travelling alone. It's been a long day 😂
