.....retired or near to it, have you taken up Gaming as a hobby? I know nothing about it, but feel that it would be a great pastime for me based on my personality and interests. Please come tell me your story; which console, which games, do you play with others or alone?

I have a Switch and mostly play Zelda games (single player). They’re my happy place!

Thanks @ThatFlyIsMySpiritAnimal . That's where I'm thinking of starting, the latest Switch. I like puzzles but not sure about 'role play' type games. I have other hobbies lines up for retirement but I want to give Gaming a go just to see if it.appeals. Buying a Switch and 2 or 3 games feels like a good way to get an introduction. I get that it seems like an odd question. That's why I'm asking on am anonymous forum.

I game and have both types of console.

Do you want single player or co operative and do you want building and nice friendly games or do you want to shoot things in the face? I do both. Do you want to build a character, min max their stats? Gaming can be as easy or as complex as you like.

I would recommend you look at you tube or twitch for actual footage of game play.

My most played games are Minecraft, building and exploring, Destiny, The Division, both have some co operative and some player versus player. Call of Duty, Fortnite, PubG, all player versus player apart from the Zombie mode in COD, The Diablo series, Horror games like Zombie Army Trilogy and Dead by Daylight, Overcooked 2, Tetris. Then small indie games. I’m not in to role playing games.

Consider if you want to communicate with others if you go online, it’s a place where misogyny is rife. I do but I have a solid group that I have gamed with for years and used to help people in a game and they were very grateful.

Destiny is my most played game but I would not recommend it for a new player it has been out a decade and whilst some are still helpful it’s not like it was. You could never catch up now and they removed some of the best content. It has a very hardcore central player base, I used to be in it and took part in Day 1 raids.

@ViciousCurrentBun thank you! Tons of useful advice and information. I guess I want to start small and alone to see if I enjoy it, then hopefully build up to more expensive consoles and possibly contact with others. I will have a lot more time to get into it when I retire in a year or so. I use YouTube to teach myself so much, but never thought to use it to explore games, so that's a great tip.
