What do you do on a weekend that doesn't cost a lot, especially if you have young children?

Park
football at the park
buy cheap tennis rackets and play throwing a ball around
go swimming in sea/a river if there is one close to you - some wild swimming spots are suitable for children
put a load of water in a tub or paddling pool (usually a tenner of less) and put plastic jugs/cups/plates out for them to pour and play with

make a “sandpit” out if cheap plastic tub and a bag of sand

Free museums with kids’ exhibitions or activities.

Park, beach or open space with outdoor sculptures and play area, and a picnic / kite / crabbing kit.

What age are the kids?

Park/playground
Treasure trails (look at their website)
Scavenger hunt
Meet-ups with other families with similar aged kids
Swimming
Movie afternoon (when it's dark/cold/wet outside)
Go for a walk somewhere interesting/fun

For very small kids:

Daytime bath
Play in the garden
Just play with whatever toys they have
'Painting' with water
Chalk
Playdoh

For very small kids it's basically the same as any other day!

Watch tv 😅
Walk and buy an ice cream at the end
Fixed orienteering courses
Playground
Play in the garden - make obstacle courses with various household items
Baking / decorating cakes / biscuits
Parkrun if you can get up earlier than we do
