Quickest way to get a new or temporary retainer fitted..?

I've had a crown and now my retainer doesn't fit. I completed Invisalign about 18 months ago. How can I get a new retainer quickly or at least something temporary ASAP?

The practice where I had the Invisalign might not be the quickest solution as that dentist only works there once a week and also had to get the scanning machine in from another practice when I had retainers fitted originally.

Phone your nearest orthodontist practice . It will cost around £100 to £130 ish.

My dentist can't get the scanner machine for 3 weeks. I phoned an orthodontist and they say mid July!! Is it worth me phoning other dentists who might have their own scanner or will they need me to register as a new patient? Otherwise my only option is one of those do it at home impression companies. I guess I could do that and book in for late June.

Can you check for local invisalign providers via their website?

Don’t bother with the on line companies. When I was a dental student it took me 12 tries to get a decent impression. If the impression distorts etc then it will push your teeth out of alignment .

Try phoning around , a retainer can be made by any dentist , you don’t need a scanner , an impression will do .

How long can I be without a retainer before my teeth might move?

I mean, depends on what your issue was to start with but my retainer is super tight if I don't wear it for two days on the trot. If you check the invisalign site they have a 'find a doctor' / provider page and you can search for providers near you and ring around that way and see if any of them will be able to rescan and fit you for a retainer. I will have this same problem myself soon, as I need a crown.

I've rung around and can't find anyone to do it. I've asked if my original invisalign dentist can do it with impressions rather than wait for the scanner to be in the right place but won't hear until next week and wouldn't see her for at least a week. I hope they don't move much by then. All that hard work 😭

Oh god, i really feel for you! This is also making me think I should book an appointment with mine in advance as I'm realising from your post that they probably won't have an appointment the same week!

Where are you based? I can think of at least three local private dentists that offer this and one (where DC gets braces) that can often fit in patients at the last minute.

East Anglia region.
