To get permission from ds father to take him abroad is just a basic hand written letter ok ? And is it just a matter of showing it at the airport?

Yes- each time my DD’s dad has just put “I’m happy for DDs mum to take her to this country from this date til this date” and signed it. I mean I could have written it but whatever.

Has only been checked once when returning to the UK but always feel more at ease having it incase.
Have also taken copy of birth certificate as a precaution due to surnames.

What happens with single parents?

Who checks this stuff, is it customs, the airline?

Genuinely curious.

It was passport control on landing back home after having been away when my letter was checked which seemed ridiculous!

So far have never been checked on way to another country. I have a different surname to my fiancé AND daughter who has her dad’s, so out of a family of 4 there’s 3 surnames. But my DD looks like a mini me so maybe they’re just sure

It confuses me to. What happens if the father vanished.
