We stayed in Dishoek last summer just outside Vlissingen. 5 mins from the beach. We took our bikes and just biked everywhere, really fabulous. Blessed with amazing weather. Would completely recommend.

Delft is beautiful as is Utrecht, Gouda and Haarlem.

Rainbowpony6 · 28/05/2025 13:28

Any words of wisdom for heading over
Thinking of a nighttime ferry on the way and day time ferry on way back
Anyone taken an electric car over

Utrecht is lovely, and easy to pop to Amsterdam on the train if you want to go (but not stay) there.

Rainbowpony6 · 28/05/2025 13:30

Just looking at that thanks

We did night ferries both ways. Very easy Hull-Rotterdam

Rainbowpony6 · 28/05/2025 13:40

We are going from Harwich to Holland

Who’s travelling? Duinrell is a firm family favourite.

MerlinsBeard87 · 28/05/2025 13:44

Are you going to Efteling? If so then Kaatscheuvel to stay. Utrecht, Leiden and Heusden lovely to stay/visit

PrimevalStomp · 28/05/2025 13:58

This is a really odd thread.

Can you imagine someone asking where they should avoid on a trip to England? Hmm

Yes!

Also Dordrecht is beautiful. Many of these lovely places are within easy travelling distance from each other so wherever you choose to stay, you can probably see a few of the others. Delft, Leiden and Utrecht are so lovely. Zaanse Schanse is touristy but for a good reason. Children love it.

Kinderdijk is lovely for windmills.
plan to eat at a pannenkoekenhuis while you are there (pancakes size of pizzas)
Madurodam, in The Hague is a giant minature Holland, worth a visit if not too touristy.

We are going from Harwich to Holland

while this is very convenient it is also very expensive.
Depending on where you live, Dover Calais is much much cheaper, and Calais is 3-4 hours drive from the centre of The Netherlands.

(the country is not called Holland by the way)

steppemum · 28/05/2025 14:46

there are electric charging points everywhere.
And nowhere is very far from anywhere, you can go a long way up or down the country in 2 hours!

bibliomania · 28/05/2025 14:47

Giethoorn was absolutely beautiful (though very touristy).

Rickeeeeeeeeee · 28/05/2025 17:16

Around the Duinrell area is great, the park itself is fab (theme park, indoor and outdoor water park etc) but also less than an hour to Amsterdam, also Gouda, Leiden etc. Loads to do.

shivermetimbers77 · 28/05/2025 17:25

We had a lovely time in the sand dunes national park area just a half hour train ride from Amsterdam.. we had an Airbnb in Egmond A Zee and the weather was fabulous. We cycled everywhere and had days on the beach and days out in Amsterdam. Loved it!

KittyEmK · 28/05/2025 17:39

Texel and Haarlem

sunshinegirl28 · 28/05/2025 17:54
