What's been your most successful cake bake.

Toddler's 2nd birthday is coming up and I'm looking for inspiration for their birthday cake. I'm a competent baker but certainly not gifted in the decorating department. Last year was a berry themed party so a 4 layer lemon sponge with freeze dried raspberry cream cheese icing. This year i'd like to go much more fun for a toddler but need some inspo.

What's been your most successful kids birthday cakes? Extra points if it travelled well enough away from home to a party!

DD had a farm cake for her birthday. Vanilla yoghurt cake with chocolate icing. Chocolate fingers around the edge, sprinkles and buttercream on top for mud/grass and some plastic animals.

Do you have a party theme in mind?

@QueenOfWeeds Ooh that's sounds yummy! Did the yoghurt add flavour or just moisture? Sorry yes, it's bear themed but not wedded to that theme in a cake.

Just moisture but you could use flavoured yoghurt? It’s an embarrassingly easy cake, use a yoghurt pot like a measuring cup, so DD made it with us. And it freezes well so we could make it in advance.

You could do a number cake, they look good but are actually really easy. Buy some bear themed cake topper stuff from Amazon

Rainbow cake got the best reaction and I didn't have to put much effort into the decoration (thank goodness as the different coloured layers were enough of a faff!)

This was my most successful https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/digger-cake it’s ridiculously easy and a really good chocolate cake recipe.

I’ve also used the same basic recipe and decoration but piled high with chocolates and sweets rather than the digger. Very easy to adapt to suit lots of themes

Digger cake

Digger cake

You don’t need to be an engineer to make this impressive construction site birthday cake, just a few toys, some chocolate coated wafer bars and a little creative flair
