I Need to lay weed membrane and add some gravel. Is it OK to start now or is it a bit to early?

Depends if it's noisy work or not.

Jeezitneverends · 26/05/2025 09:13

It’s perfectly fine-presumably you’re not using a pneumatic drill

CassieAusten · 26/05/2025 09:13

Someone's been using a chainsaw behind us since 8.30 so knock yourself out, yours sounds quieter!

Totally fine

TheNinthLock · 26/05/2025 09:13

If you were my neighbour I'd be more than happy for you to crack on :)

AndImBrit · 26/05/2025 09:13

A totally normal time to garden I would say

TheAutumnCrow · 26/05/2025 09:14

It’s a bank holiday though. Plenty of people trying to have a lie-in. I’d probably give it till ten, which is what people tend to do round my neighbourhood.

wouldratherbeinthegarden · 26/05/2025 09:16

I feel 9am is acceptable but not everyone will be up and about necessarily on a BH. I often garden early AM as that is sometimes the only time I have available to weed and water. I personally wouldn't cut the grass so early though because of the noise. I would say go for it. It looks like a beautiful morning.

Monstersfromtheid · 26/05/2025 09:17

It's fine, crack on!

MolkosTeenageAngst · 26/05/2025 09:17

Its fine but as it’s a bank holiday I’d try and avoid anything noisy for another hour but absolutely make a start on things.

LoveTheLake525 · 26/05/2025 09:18

You are going to get replies (mostly) from those of us who are awake. Not those who are asleep & wont thank you for waking them up on a bank holiday.

You know your neighbours, we don't.

personally I wouldn't unless I knew my neighbours were already up & about. Even though I've been awake since 5.30.

faerietales · 26/05/2025 09:19

If it's quiet, crack on, but I'd leave anything noisy until 10ish on a bank holiday.

MellowPinkDeer · 26/05/2025 09:20

Some kids have been screaming at the top of their voices in a garden near here since before 9 ( like just constant screeching) I think you’re fine.

TheNightingalesStarling · 26/05/2025 09:21

It we really depend on your neighbourhood. Its a sunny Bank Holiday here, which means the tourists ate starting to arrive for the 9.30 opening time. Its a normal working day for many people!

Ddflat56 · 26/05/2025 09:21

I think i will. I don't think it would be overly noisy. Time I have the bits i need its probably going to be 9.30 anyway.

Our neighbours love their garden and are early risers. Last Saturday, there were clattering around in the garden, talking at full volume at 6.08am!!!

FFS...

SendBooksAndTea · 26/05/2025 09:28

9 isn't early so that seems perfectly fine.

B1indEye · 26/05/2025 09:29

It depends on what exactly you're going to do and who your neighbours are.

Weeding? Chainsawing trees? Surrounded by night shift workers or families with toddlers to whom a bank holiday makes no difference?

Lots of factors to take into account

PumpkinSpicePie · 26/05/2025 09:31

I wouldn't until at least 10. I've been up a few hours but wouldn't want to dictate when others wake up

FutureMandosWife · 26/05/2025 09:32

It's fine, if workmen can start then on you go

user1471530109 · 26/05/2025 09:41

Well my neighbour is drilling into the party wall 🙄. I'd say you're fine to lay weed membrane. Maybe start moving the gravel after 10.

TheFairyCaravan · 26/05/2025 09:48

DH was doing that in our garden last week during the evenings. He stopped around 8.30pm because we have children who live nearby so he was worried about their bedtimes. Tbf, I couldn’t hear him in the house.

Ddflat56 · 26/05/2025 10:04

I have finished now . Thought it would take longer 😅

Reonie · 26/05/2025 10:05

Builders start at 8am! Most people are up. Nobody likes noise but it's nicer to have the afternoon/evening without it. (Grr...summer...evening strimmers and hedge-trimmers and mowers...grrrrr)
