We're going to London next week. Doing the London eye 12pm. We have until 6.30pm until our train home.
The children want to see buckingham palace and Big Ben. Which is the best way to travel to these with 5 and 6 year old.
Tube or Bus or even Taxi if not too expensive.

That’s walkable!

HolyMacaroniBatman · 22/05/2025 20:59

You can walk from the London Eye to the Houses of Parliament, they’re right across the river from each other and there’s a direct bridge. Then Buckingham Palace is another 20 minute walk. They’re all really close to each other.

Adding: you might need to give the kids an ice cream midway (loads of Mr Whippy vans around Parliament)

Walk from London eye to Big Ben. You can also walk or get the tube to Buckingham Palace from big Ben. It's a 20 min walk. If you have good walkers, I'd walk .

Satisfiedkitty · 22/05/2025 21:02

It's a nice walk - either through or along the park. Have a look on Google maps and you'll see it's practically a straight line.

I agree to walking.

if you need to cover more ground then getting the 88 bus in any direction is handy and cheap. Ot also goes past Hamleys.

From Big Ben to the Palace you can go through St James's Park, a nice walk that you can take in a leisurely way, and I think there's a cafe. Look out for the pelicans!

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 22/05/2025 21:08

Are you going on a Saturday? If so, check no planned protests around Parliament as you may not want to walk it if so

Lovenpic · 22/05/2025 21:56

Yep, walk!

Depending on the direction you go, you can see pelicans/ No10 / Trafalgar Sq.

It won’t take long, and once you’ve looked at the outside of the buildings there’s not much to actually ‘do’. There’s a good (but busy) playground by the Eye which might be useful.

Don’t for the love of Zeus walk in the bike lane over Westminster Bridge. That’s my tip to all tourists.

ChangeUserName25 · 22/05/2025 22:01

Thank you. we shall walk.
Not a Saturday we're going midweek.

you walk through St James park to get to the Palace. There is another playground at the Palace end of the park and LOTS of cute goslings and ducklings to the moment!
