Is ChatGPT safe for teens / children to use?

My primary concern is adult content. Is this possible with ChatGPT? Trying to protect my dc for as long as possible

The reason I ask is they don’t have safari on their phone as I can’t find a way or safely restricting it. They have asked for ChatGPT instead

They use it for school work. Not necessarily to cheat (e.g. by getting it to write their essays for them), but to collate information for a project, to teach them how to do something, or as a revision aid.

Whatever one's views about the dangers and downsides of AI, there is no doubt it can be very useful for all kinds of work tasks.

You did because you said teens or children, like you had both. At that age they will find adult content anywhere if they want to. But I wouldn’t be letting them use chatGTP because they can use it to cheat with school work and think for them. Adult content isn’t the only risk.

Depends what you’d class as adult content. I’ve just had a quick search to see what comes up if I type in some key “buzz” words- sex, drugs etc, and it does bring up really quite a lot of detail, if they searched then it will appear.

You can also ask it to do almost anything, I’m sure they were saying on the news not so long ago that you can “sexy” with it
and can ask it to write you an erotic story.

I downloaded it and tried a few search terms myself and it said “sorry I can’t provide that information “ but I am not sure if it’s maybe cos it’s on our home wifi and we have restricted terms on that

It must be your wifi controls as mine shows a lot of info and suggests other things I can search for e.g. “kink, masturbation, penetrative sex toys”

I don’t think it can create images but text yes, you can ask it to write you an erotic story. I just asked it to do that and it then asks if I want it male/female, male/male etc, if I want it to include kink and gives examples, asks how long I want it, what setting etc.

It does create images, not sure about erotic ones though.

I've played around with it for a while now,.and you can create images/text. These are features it has since learnt since it originally launched.

No idea about videos but I believe you can, but I think you need the paid version in order to do it. Chat GPT-o is the current and more cleverer one but you only have a limit to the amount you can use it per day.

"AI" cannot be guardrailed, as they like to say. Anyone who says it can is either lying or hoping.

In the 1970s, I frequently wandered around the local library after I had finished the childrens section. It wasn't hard to find the more interesting sections in the regular parts. Especially the reference section which was separated and very quiet. Many a Saturday .afternoon secreted in there with a volume of the "Enk Brit" as I used to call it.

Like it or not (I don't), AI is going to be part of our lives, so as a parent I want to teach my DC to use it properly and effectively.

They shouldn't be using it to write essays for them (as they are not then developing the research or critical thinking skills they need).

However, it can have a use in explaining concepts or summarising information- with the proviso that they need to check what it comes out with.
