When are you supposed to have a baby shower?

Disclaimer - I have never had or wanted a baby shower, I know they are frowned on here.

I always thought if you have a baby shower you do it at 35-37ish weeks pregnant. But lately I've seen a lot of people on Instagram having baby showers before 20 weeks. I don't like the idea of giving gifts for a baby before he/she is here safely but to do it before 20 weeks seems madness to me. My 4th baby had a problem picked up at the 20 week anomaly scan and I didn't buy any baby stuff for my babies before the anomaly scans. It just seems way too early.

Normally third trimester. A former colleague’s baby was born very poorly and died in hospital. One of her few happy memories of her baby is her baby shower. She found all the baby things in the house comforting

Whenever you want one. Or don’t have one if you don’t want one. It doesn’t really matter does it if it’s not your baby!

Most that I know of have been third trimester, I didn’t have a proper baby shower but rather just invited my family & close friends round for a meal which I suppose was a bit like my baby shower and I was 37 ish weeks then😂

I suppose if you are doing the organising yourself and were doing something “proper” that required lots of prep/decorating etc you’d probably want to have it earlier in your pregnancy
