The headlines are sensationalised, but chemical castration is already used fairly widely in Europe and in some American states, so it could happen. After all, the prisons are full, so I guess this could be a valid alternative. Not sure if it would be offered instead of incarceration or be compulsory.

Dreichweather · 22/05/2025 15:01

It’s an extension of a scheme already in use in England so it must be possible.

Gilder · 22/05/2025 15:04

Is it effective though? I’m sure I read about the pull for some paedophiles is the power, and chemical castration doesn’t take away those sorts of urges.

If it definitely works it should be used. TBH when it comes to paedophiles I’d support surgical castration and life on a prison island!

This is already used in lots of countries.

Is there any evidence that it reduces reoffending rates?

It’s a dead cat.
