Anyone know the area around Twickenham please?

Can anyone recommend somewhere to eat around Twickenham please?

It isn't on an International / big match day, but we need to fill a couple of hours around lunchtime / early afternoon whilst waiting for someone. It is a Saturday.

Happy for it to be a local pub or a chain, or a cafe.

Prefer it not to be too £££.

Haven’t been to many of the new ones, but Osteria Pulcinella in Church St is nice. If the weather is good, all the restaurants along there have outside tables.
We’ve had lots of nice meals at Brouge (slightly out of the town centre. Most of the pubs serve decent meals, and there’s numerous other restaurants if you just want to wander and take your pick.

It’s so long since I lived there but I was thinking of Osteria Pulcinella in Church St too. It’s a little £££ but not too bad. There are loads of restaurants and cafes in the area - if you search on Google maps you’ll see the streets where they mainly are. Church street is a nice bit because it’s pedestrianised. But loads of other places to eat too - you could easily wander round and just find somewhere you like the look of.

SwornToSilence · 21/05/2025 15:22

Osteria is church street it will be pricy. Try Elvis and Ivy in Brentford. A personal lunchtime favourite. Google it. All homemade. Quirky tables. Lovely service. A true gem of a place

Talipesmum · 21/05/2025 15:35

It’s not all pricey on church street - Rosie chai is pretty good value, the eel pie has cheaper lunch dishes and the Indian place on the corner with outside seating has a brunch menu.
There’ll be cheaper places to eat along Heath Road between church street and the Green.

CherryRipe1 · 21/05/2025 15:54

There's a Megan's on King Street. Mediterranean and not too expensive. It's nice inside and pleasant staff.

CarpetKnees · 21/05/2025 16:33

Thanks all.

A couple of them definitely look a bit 'naicer' than we were thinking. Hoping for a bit of pub grub to sustain us after an early start, but money is a bit tight.

Really appreciate everyone taking the time to help as I've never been so didn't know how easy it would be to find somewhere within walking distance. Looks like a bit of competition if we head in the right direction.

Thanks all.

If you need a bit more to fill in the time, I recommend going down to the river. It’s not far from the town centre.

Talipesmum · 21/05/2025 16:43

I’d say you’re more likely to get cheap good food at fry up type cafes or Lebanese type cafes than in pubs round there. But have a look at the pub menus online - they’re probably all similarly priced, but maybe the barmy arms down by the river might work? Typical greene king menu. https://maps.app.goo.gl/VKDKgSQPWLC9wegF6?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

From distant memory, the White Swan pub on the river is nice and they certainly used to do food.

UnPetitCochon · 21/05/2025 16:51

If you like Thai food the Prince Albert pub is really good. I love their pad Thai. It’s just past Twickenham Green.

Triptothepark · 21/05/2025 16:55

The Prince Albert is always popular. As is Brouges, though that's bit of a trek. Greek Unique on Heath Road is cheap and very popular. We also like Megan's but it can be pricy. If you like Middle Eastern food Sidra is great.

GivingUpFinally · 21/05/2025 17:02

Barmy arms is fab. A fav of ours for years and right on the right on the river. They do a decent Sunday rait for under 20 quid each

Kpo58 · 21/05/2025 17:19

After lunch, you could take a nice walk around Marble Hill Park.

CherryRipe1 · 21/05/2025 17:44

There is a Spoons nearish to the station, The William Webb-Ellis it's rugby themed. York house nearby is nice, the gardens are pretty as is Marble Hill as previously mentioned. Afaik they are free. If you have time and the budget, Strawberry hill house is an amazing gothic house. I love it! There's a Waitrose near Spoons, you could get some snacks & drinks there & sit by the river if it's a nice day.

Strawberry Hill House is wonderful! I’m not sure how realistic it is to turn up without booking a slot though so you’d be best off planning.

CherryRipe1 · 21/05/2025 18:00

@EmpressaurusKitty Isn't it just & the guides are so knowledgeable and enthusiastic! I've never had a problem just turning up there but yes, probably a good idea to book. I like the organic kitchen garden there too.

gegs73 · 21/05/2025 18:14

I can second Greek Unique, nice food and really good value, it you like the look of that it’s best to book. Sidra is really good too and you can walk straight in. Spoons is well Spoons. Good value and decent food.

Soul Cafe which is 5 minutes walk from the centre towards Twickenham Green is reasonably priced and really nice for lunches. They also sell beers and cocktails.

As others have said, there is a Waitrose, M&S Food, Tesco, Sainsburys and Iceland so you could always pick up some food and go and sit next to the river if the weathers good. Marble Hill park is really nice to walk around and you can see the Naked Ladies and have a drink in the Balmy Arms or White Swan.

CarpetKnees · 21/05/2025 23:44

Thank you everyone.

This is all really helpful. Smile
