50th Birthday over Christmas

As you may have guessed, I am turning 50 this year, and without wanting to give an exact date - like, sod it, Christmas Day (!) I am wondering what to do for my birthday this year.

My children are in their 20s, one with his own partner and my lovely granddaughter. The other living with her partner 4 hours away.

It was always just me and the kids and we'd descend on my Mum every year, bless her. Everyone has got to an age though where they have their own plans.

Anyway. I'm not looking for sympathy or anything like that. I'm looking for suggestions about going away.

I did a quick Google - Prague at Christmas looked quite nice, 4 nights - a single person's getaway kind of thing, but not a match making experience! Meet as a group before you go and then experience the trips and evenings together.

Has anyone ever done anything like this? Do you have a site you would recommend? Any tips? Any horror stories?
I've travelled as a single parent, but never as a single person.
I'd love to take the plunge but putting feelers out first. It is May after all 🤣

OP that’s an exciting plan! Nowhere specific I can advise other than read all the reviews online and pick one you like the sound of. Although do you mean a trip over Christmas Day? Would this be that busy do you think or is there a risk you’d regret it and miss family on the day where you’d be the star of the day - as well as your DGD? Also who else would be on the trip if it was Christmas Day - maybe twixmas/nye or even January to somewhere tropical for a week would be a safer bet with more of a group shared adventure feel?
Have a great time whatever you do 🥳

Ah thank you for the reply.

It would definitely cover Christmas Day! That's absolutely fine. DGD will be at her other Nanas. 'DILs' Mum. We usually have a Christmas before or after. Son will be with them too.

My daughter and I spent Christmas in the Canaries a couple of years back, but she's settled where she is now.

If they all come to me, I'll be spending my birthday cooking! No thank you. It's not like it's the first time. I want to do something for myself.
I'm happy to go back to the Canaries alone, always meet new people.

I was just looking for something slightly different - these are all organised day trips etc...
But then I think, can I bothered with that when I could be floating in the sea with the sun on my face.

Life begins at 50! Maybe 🤣

If only I could afford somewhere tropical!

I'm not sure how many people go on these things. That would be quite typical and quite hilarious. 4 nights over Christmas in Prague... Just me and the tour guide then!

Trip to see the Northern lights maybe? Have a lovely birthday-xmas combo whatever you choose!

Iceland would be fantastic. I'd want to go in whale watching season though.

I'll have to Google again because it was a website that was clearly easily found... I could to India if I could afford it. I can't 😂

Thank you.

I'm sure I'll find something. It's quite exciting!

I'm also turning 50 around Christmas, although not on the day itself. For years I'd planned to do a big trip - New York - with the kids (still young enough to come away with me) just before Christmas, but due to it being too busy and rushed, we're doing it on the October half term. So that's when my birthday celebration will be, and on the actual date, pre-Christmas, I suppose we might have a nice meal or just let the day pass by.
