Posting here for traffic.

Could anyone recommend a secondary school in Lewisham. That is good with SENCO ASD. No private schools though.

Prendergast Ladywell has a really good reputation

Do you have a boy or a girl?

Boy. Someone just told me SEN children are not treated well there.

I've got a friend who is really happy with it, but no one school is going to work for everyone I guess.

They said it was someone who works there told them. My neighbour was told to keep away to. But like you say I guess it depends on the person . But then you don't know till they start. By then its to late. But that's the same for any school. Its not easy.

I don't know about how they are with children with SEN but apparently Forest Hill Boys is very popular now.

No personal experience of it but I’ve heard good reports of Addey and Stanhope.

ThanksItHasPockets · 19/05/2025 18:56

My knowledge is a decade out of date so please get a more up-to-date view but when I worked in Lewisham secondary schools Addey and Stanhope was always viewed as a nurturing school which was excellent with SEND pupils.

I viewed that school years ago. It did look lovely at the time. But im really worried about the area it's in. Its pretty rough in that part of lewisham.

I agree that part looks quite grim but I wouldn’t call it rough. I have friends who live nearby and I’ve walked alone at night up Deptford High Street and along New Cross Road to the station and never felt remotely threatened.

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 19/05/2025 20:25

Addey is an excellent school; I know it relatively well through my work and am always impressed by it.

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 19/05/2025 20:36

Addeys is a lovely school with a brilliant headteacher who has true integrity

I used to live very nearby. It’s very busy and a bit scruffy but there are always so many people around that I never felt unsafe. I’d rather be around there on my own after dark than on the quiet streets around Hatcham or Hilly Fields, to be honest.

Obviously a lot will depend on where you live and the commute your child will need to do.

Deptford Green? SEN is meant to be great there.

enfrance · 19/05/2025 20:51

Also I think FHB is a great school but the SEN is abysmal.

I know it to there's no way I would walk Deptford/new cross at night.

Yes unfortunately very recent experience aligns with this, very under resourced for SEN

Dontneednoeducation · 19/05/2025 21:05

Any thoughts on sedgehill?

haberdashers Hatcham college good with SEN/ASD. Deptford Green used to be known for it but I’ve heard mixed things more recently. Whereabouts in lewisham are you?
