Any tips for protecting furniture in self-storage?

We are moving out of our rental flat this weekend to live with my in laws for a few months whilst our first house sale goes through and putting all of our big bulky furniture into self-storage.

There’s a lot of different advice online about how to protect the furniture we store from deteriorating and it’s hard to work out what is OTT vs what we should actually do.

For anyone who has used self-storage before please could you advise what you used and then how your furniture faired? It will hopefully only be for 6 months max!

We will be buying a bigger bed so planning on using the double sheets/duvet covers we would otherwise be getting rid of to cover some stuff but will probably need to buy some more fabric(?) coverings if anyone had any specific recommendations. Also not sure whether we need to buy the plastic protective flooring wrap stuff or not?

Basically we are clueless so any advice is welcome!

Big Yellow Storage have temperature controlled rooms, they are dry and insulated. Some places are cheaper but they are cold and damp. It is worth using an environmentally controlled unit because it keeps your furniture in good condition.

Yes sorry I should have said it’s indoor climate controlled storage, thanks!
