A pestle and mortar.

Does he like cooking...no, no interest.

Is he a forest witch...not sure.

Is he an alchemist...fingers crossed.

He's seen them in videos and now that is all he wants.

Anyone else had some weird requests?!

Ah wonderful. Get the boy his mortar and pestal and spice paste recipe book.

Unless it's poultices he wants to make, do you live near any willow trees?

We've had a request for a life size corgi toy, not as weird as you though.

I can remember asking for an telescope at about the same age as your DS . Not a space telescope but more an Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson, "Land ahoy, matey" 18th century naval battles telescope.

Don't mention this to your DS as I suspect he may be a child after my own heart and you could let yourself in for a very lengthy investigation into the Napoleonic Wars.

Or do. It might be fun.

Maybe I'd just been watching Mutiny On The Bounty over a bank holiday weekend or something,

My five year old (30 next month) wanted 7 large King Edward potatoes in a sack bag (she meant hessian I think ) but VERY specific about them being King Edwards.. I obliged . She was euphoric with happiness and took them everywhere with her (a very obliging primary) .. they had grown long eyes and ‘looked scary’ before she forsake them 4 long long months later and after they had been camping in Italy with us… how I long for those days . Since then it’s been iPads , laptops , iPhones .. and now the hire of a country house for her 30th .. I’ve offered 10lbs of King Edward’s and even offered to throw in a couple of pounds of jersey royals .. but it seems the British spud has lost its allure in favour of a country estate that will sleep 30 😩…

This made me cackle!

My sister asked for a jar of gherkins for her 4th birthday. I still get her one every year, and she’s just turned 26.Smile

You'll also need to get some watercolour paint blocks or chalk, as he's very likely to want to grind those up, along with assorted dried plants and soil; the videos tend to be of grinding pigments, mixing them with oils and then mixing the colours with a palette knife or making pottery glazes & clay.

Get a fairly large and heavy pestle with a flattened base (or add that in for the present so he has one for crushing and one for fine grinding), a flat surface for the fine grinding, a box of disposable gloves and a large sheet of plastic to cover everything.

I don't zone out to assorted shorts with stuff like this, no, not me...

And think positively - at least he isn't into the bloody tapping.

DS wanted a litter picker and high viz jacket when he was 8!

My 5 year old asked for a bin for his birthday.

Back story is he was playing with our new bathroom bin one day, randomly having a great time and I joked that maybe I should get one for his birthday. He was taken with that and kept mentioning it for weeks after and genuinely wanted his own bin. 🤣
