Can anyone else remember an 80s kids TV show which was simply Tony Robinson, walking around beaches telling the story of the Odyssey?
I’m beginning to think I have imagined it, but if not can anyone remember what it was called and even better know if I can find on YouTube?

Was it Odysseus the Greatest Hero of Them All? I’m not sure where you can watch it though.

Tony is a great story teller. I remember that. Think it is an audio book now.

Favourite ever story telling was Rik Mayall’s George’s Marvellous Medicine.

Amazing! Just tracked it down (or a version) on audible. Thank you

I loved that show and it was the start of a love of classics for me. For years I thought I’d imagined it as well. I’d love to watch it again.

There was a different one he did called Fat Tulips Garden, leaping around a garden telling short stories. Early-mid 80s?

And one telling Bible stories on location. I want to say Land of Milk and Honey.

I remember Fat Tulip’s Garden @BogRollBOGOF- it was hilarious. Fred the Baddy, Lewis Collins the tortoise - I think he was on something 😆

Ooh I remember land of milk and honey. Him banging a little drum next to a crumbling bit of wall telling the story about the walls of Jericho. Now I want to find these others!

Edited to add...
Just googled, it was called Blood and Honey

I remember the bible one! Didn't realise he'd done more in that style. The format really suited his storytelling abilities.

I loved the Bible one. I thought it was called Blood and Honey, but maybe that just because the Bible can be fairly bloodthirsty 😁
I remember reading a book about Fat Tulip - I've a sudden, very strong, memory of the illustrations. Might have to Google for some nostalgia

I loved Fat Tulip! Very few people remember it.

My favourite bit was Tony Robinson sellotaping slices of bread together to make an enormous sandwich.

Oh and a Christmas special when Fred the Baddie and all of the prisoners dressed up as Auntie Mabel and came to stay.

Can't remember what I went upstairs for though...

NewMe2024 · 14/05/2025 08:46

Wasn’t Fat Tulip the character he played? I was very little but remember loving it.

I loved Fat Tulip's Garden! The bit at the beginning is on Youtube, where the camera goes through the undergrowth. I have such a strong memory of watching that in our first house, when I would have been maybe 4 or 5.

I've been watching the latest Time Team dig at Sutton Hoo on YouTube, presented by Tony Robinson. I just love him so much - crazy I've been watching him for 40-odd years!

NooNakedJacuzziness · 14/05/2025 10:47

I remember one episode when Fred the Baddy posted a message on a kipper to Fat Tulip saying he was coming to stay with him Grin
