Any better semi-permanent funky coloured hair dyes out there than Bleach London?

I'm not bleaching my own hair so do realise that will affect the result. I just wondered if there's anything better out there that'll give a decent colour (pink) & is maybe a bit cheaper/bigger bottle for the price?

If not, I'll stick with the Bleach London for the mo!

Thanks!

Manic Panic? Superdrug have their own range too, they have a ‘dusky pink’ shade.

lucysmam · 15/05/2025 10:39

Thanks @WaneyEdge . Dd used a blue Manic Panic recently & it didn't colour very well. I wonder if the Live ones are any good 🤔. I'm off to browse after today's appointment.

Knight and Wilson Colour Freedom are good in my experience - last much longer than Bleach London. I have used their pink pizazz either on its own or mixed with a bit of thick conditioner for a lighter shade and had lots of compliments. My ‘natural’ hair isn’t bleached but does have quite a bit of grey in it which the colour seems to stick to well.

I'll look for those, thank you. The website says they're in stock.

Arctic Fox is very good, and smells amazing too.

Hallywally · 15/05/2025 13:17

Unless you’re naturally very blonde, pink won’t do much if not on bleached hair.

Try https://www.joico.com/pro-color/color-intensity/

Colours last very well and can be added to conditioner to pastelise

@Hallywally I know & am ok with that. I have stupid post-chemo hair & am not keen to bleach it. Plus I don't think super bright would be popular at work tbh.

Another vote for Knight and Wilson. The Live ones you can get in Super drug are ok but better for some colours than others. Blue is generally tricky so just because blue manic panic faded doesn't mean the pink will.

lucysmam · 15/05/2025 20:46

Interesting about the blue @RNApolymerase , maybe we'll try another at some point. She's currently growing what's left of it out for a while before a cut.

I went with the Knight and Wilson Pink Pizzaz one suggested above - if it works, it works, if it doesn't, I'll look like a fuzzy haired numpty with pinkish hair 🤷‍♀️🤣.

Good luck with the pink pizazz. Just be warned if it takes it is a very bright pink! (Lovely colour but pretty much the colour on the box which I wasn’t necessarily expecting as my hair was naturally brown amongst the grey!)

lucysmam · 16/05/2025 07:07

Oh! Well, if it does that I'll be happy...work will not 🙈

I’ve used directions dark magenta type pink before on non bleached hair and it was very vivid. I think the colour was ‘rose red’ but I’m not 100% sure.

I had light brown hair with highlights and it was certainly very pink! I made a point of leaving it on my hair for several hours wrapped in plastic so that it came out bright enough.

I have had all sorts of colours but I think that was my favourite. Good luck!

Snackpocket · 16/05/2025 07:37

Another vote for directions. I used them so much when I had bright red hair.

@AndorTheRelentless How do you buy them though?

Lougle · 16/05/2025 07:42

DD2 used green manic panic on brown hair. It did colour it quite intensely. It did not wash out! Well, I say that. What I mean is they that water has blue/green tinges every time she washes her hair, but it's still green 9 months later. There was nothing semi permanent about it.

@AndorTheRelentless How do you buy them though?

I use google to search for Joico Magenta, and then select shopping

African Hair boutique normally have a good price - you dont want to spend more than around £12

Amazon stock them and also ebay can be good

LuckyShark · 16/05/2025 12:30

When i was a rainbow unicorn i always went back to directions, they had the best staying power.
Dilute in cheap white conditioner for pastels, or mix a few shades for the perfect tone
Cheap, non damaging and have staying power

Slightyamusedandsilly · 16/05/2025 12:44

Crazy Color. BUT leave it on about 4 times longer than the instructions say. It gives real depth of colour.

lucysmam · 16/05/2025 14:46

Ooh, loads of suggestions to try, thank you!

My plan is nip & meet dd1 off the bus, buy a bottle of wine then shower & put the one I bought yesterday on my hair. If that washes out quickly, I'll look at Directions next week before half term (probably on Friday, thinking about it, that's a training day!).

Directions are miles better pigment wise than most others around- I find bleach London really weak and barely deposits. You can buy directions on Amazon
