Subcutaneous Cyst - white head. How to drain?

DH has had a subcutaneous cyst on his neck for years. About 5 years ago it got huge and infected and popped. It then went down to almost nothing.

Over the years it re grew. It has been about 1cm in size and not changed for about 3 years.

2 days ago it suddenly grew twice the size and today it has a secondary mound which is white. He says it is quite sore.

As this secondary white head has come up, is there something we can put on it like magnesium sulphate or similar?

Any advice? He will get in touch with his GP tomorrow.

The GP was reluctant to operate on it previously due to its position.

see photo - ignore his scruffy beard!!

You need the sporner corner https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/sporner_corner Loads of good advice and a bonus for video.

I would go with mag sulphate or a very hot compress to bring it to a head.

I would not be interfering with that - unless you get rid of the cyst capsule it'll keep re-collecting, and if he introduces bugs/it gets much worse, that looks like tiger territory for causing problems (pic is not that helpful, but am guessing it's just below the jaw line, where there are some pretty meaty vessels/structures). It'd be better to get it looked at with a view to having it properly treated. I'd also be really careful with haircare there in the meantime and if it starts getting much bigger/more inflamed then speak to someone IRL today.

Sterilised needle to make an opening and then place the neck of a n empty glass bottle that has been heated using hot not boiling water, over it.

As the bottle cools down it creates a vacuum and will draw out the pus etc

You must ensure the neck of the bottle remains in contact with the surrounding skin the whole time and don’t be alarmed when you see and feel it all being pulled into the bottle neck.

keep in place until the bottle has completely cooled down. Repeat if necessary using a clean bottle each time.

I got rid of one like that on the side of my ex p face. I scratched surface with a sterilised pin and squeezed the contents, then dug about with tweezers and gently pulled the sac out. If the sac isn’t removed, then it will just refill, which is what must’ve happened with your DH.
